Taiwan Internet Cable
Does anyone know if the undersea Taiwan cable has been repaired and all is back to normal yet?
If so I need to go speak with TOT as my receive speed is still down @ 262 kbps. I'm told I should expect anything from 350 - 485 kbps........
Also, a quick question, when I'm downloading from the internet the status dialog box shows a "transfer rate" what exactly is this???

Kudjap, see:

I understand it will take a couple of weeks and isn't yet back to normal. My access to hotmail and various other sites is still inconsistent and sometimes with no access.
Maybe someone else can help answer your last question.

1. I was reported after the earthquake that is will be at least a month before the internet and phone services will back to to normal, that includes Japan, Taiwan, and other asia countries.
2. Tranfer rate you are talking about is rate that data is being transferred from the download site to your computer. Transfer rate is the speed at which datat is being transferred and is measured in megabytes (mbs).

Kudjap, if you are talking about your download/transfer speed from Bit Torrent, that is NOT just governed by your Internet connection speed. That is controlled and influenced by things like at what speed the person from whom you are downloading is able to send/upload, and many people/computers limit their upload speeds. It's not uncommon to only be able to download at 1 kbps from some sources.
I sometimes test my download speed from the TT&T Maxnet site:
http://www.maxnet.co.th/
I have the basic package, and carrying out a speed test just now it read:-
"Bandwidth reading: 217.20 kbps
Which means that you can download from our servers at: 27.15 kbps"
Hope that helps.
