Is there a website where you can just enter your machine's make, model, etc., and it tells you which is/are the best Linux version/s for it, please?

However your main concern should be what you want from a Linux distribution then find one that supports that. Asking for opinions on which Linux is best is like asking which car is best. Many opinions. Almost any of today's PC hardware will support most Linux distributions.

Linux distro's have improved markedly over the dozen or so years I have been farking about with them. There's more innate compatibility with varying hardware which was a bit of a chore if you weren't up to subscribing to developers threads and installing hand-made programs. Ubuntu and Mint have always maintained a pretty good reputation. Plenty of websites with information on what's hot, what's not and what's good for noobs, etc..

It would be nice to start an Udon Linux Meetup (oh i cannot believe I suggested this).
The issues people will encounter are:

• Setup of USB Install or DVD install media

• Different distros of Linux

• BIOs Boot changes to test your system with a Live Boot disk or USB

• HCL (Hardware Compatiblity

• Dual Boot with Windows (haha)

• Linux Based Alternatives to Mac or Windows Software questions

• Will my piece of Garbage Laptop or Desktop run Linux

I have an old Acer laptop. It was pretty slow running Windows so I tried Linux Mint. It ran OK but was still slow. Since than I have gone to Zorin and it seems to be the best for me.

Zorin is good for Linux beginners like me because it is very similar to Windows.

I dug an old XP laptop out of storage that had been retired earlier when it stopped booting. I didn't see the value of reinstalling XP so I made it a candidate for a tryout of Ubuntu. I didn't bother to reformat the HD beforehand and the installer sensed the pre-existing XP partition so I configured it for dual-boot, just in case. After testing, I was happy to discover the dual-boot setup had somehow repaired or restored the stuffed-up XP boot sector as well and I had the best of both worlds.

I use a dual boot Win 10 and CENTOS 7 (Redhat). I think there are a lot of users in the area and seem to cover the spectrum of distributions.
