Independent WiFi & Internet connectivity for Laptops

Post by vidmaster » December 24, 2019, 8:19 pm

I am looking for best independent means of accessing WiFi & Internet on my laptop when I am away from my apartment
Is there options for size & power of connecting?
I have a VPN, so would that cause any issues ?
I look forward to and thanks in advance for all replies
Thanks

Are you wanting to use you lap top while out and about sitting a cafe / bar / on side of road in you car??

You can use you Mobile Ph as a access point to connect your lap top to as a WIFI, most Gin joints have WIFI, mac Donadls bars cafe ETC, if you click on the WIFI symbol on your lap top you will see all the names come up of available networks, if you have the password for the network just enter it and your logged in.

Good corner restaurant sitting there my Lap top picks up about 20 WIFI signals, hotels across the road bars London Barber shop private phones, as well as Good corner WIFI, just ask them for the pass word and you logged into the net, VPN wont worry WIFI, other than making it a bit slower to use the net

Save your money, use your ph, easiest way to do it is go to Central shops, pick a Iphone store and ask them the go through the whole system for setting up Ph to lap top via WiFI, most cases the won't even charge you, But give then a B50 tip,

Follow these instructions

If I need to do what it seems your after I get a one day 4G pass (AIS *777*7026# about 14Baht) connect my phone to the USB port on my NoteBook and go thru the phone settings > Connections > Tethering and set USB Tethering to ON and away I go.

Battery powered standalone devices and ones which plug into your computer certainly are available (some locals have had the battery one). Both types are probably the kind of thing you want. They either accept a standard sim or have a built in one.

Alternatively If you want to use your iPhone as a hotspot you can either connect your charging cable (Works with Mac, may not work with windows) or connect to it via WiFi (works with every device) or Bluetooth (I haven’t used it so don’t know if every device will work).

I commonly use my iPad as a hotspot for SWMBO’s iPad when we are out as we don’t use enough data for both of us to need a data plan.

For 200 Baht a month or 1800 for a year, my wife's phone has unlimited AIS access to the internet, at speeds suitable for youtube or netflix or surfing in general....granted it's not the highest speeds that AIS offers. It takes 10 seconds to hotspot her phone to my tablet....and then we both have access.

Hi Parrot. I currently pay Dtac 650 baht/month for unlimited data. Interested to know what speed your wife's connection is limited at.

Hi parrrot....my wife probably has the same 200 bht deal as your good lady. She allows my two lads to tether too her mobile phone acting as a host mobile hotspot then accessed via Bluetooth and they watch YouTube etc with no problems with connectivity or buffering when all three are on line
This even when out in the village in Nong Han

I just did a speedtest on her phone........65 down, 20 up. Youtube/netflix work fine........really don't use the phone for much. Pay the year in advance for 1800 or pay 200 monthly. Good deal.
