Papagallo Italian/Thai Food

Post by papaguido » October 22, 2011, 7:42 am

New Italian restaurant in town recently opened. Pizza is on the menu, and their menu is displayed outside for preview. Haven't been, but looking forward to trying their pizza. Open from 1100-2300.

The restaurant is just down the road from the CAT office (same side), immediately after the 3-way traffic light.

Papagallo Italian/Thai Food

Post by papaguido » October 25, 2011, 1:09 pm

Just back from having my pizza fix at Papagallo's. The pizza was excellent and to my liking, it was olive oil based topped with olives, mushroom, red peppers (capsicum), prosciutto and plenty of cheese.

Elio (the proprietor) has a few different styles of pizza to choose from or you can build your own. The pizza is about 12” and yielded about 8 slices (only available serving size).

The restaurant is clean, modern and comfortable with ceiling fans providing adequate air circulation. However, being it was a nice day my friend and I choose to dine al fresco. Elio is from northern Italy, if that gives any indication of his cooking style.

*Delivery available 40bt.

Here are a few pic’s, starting with the pizza we ordered.

Please be even more explicit, where is this place?

I looked at the map, and drove by a couple times and could not find it, perhaps I am a just silly or busy looking out for wackos on their motorbikes etc.

Looking at the owners drawing on the first photo of in the middle set of photos, I hazard best guess at map ref L10 where the nightclub yellow star is marked on the Udonmap.
Shame cannot sample the food for a week or so but am interested about how far he will deliver and would happily pay extra than 40 baht knowing the pizza is a good one. 8)
Good to see a few more Italian restaurants springing up around town :D

From Wattana Nuwong rd. heading towards the clock tower PG's is just after the 3-way traffic light (only traffic light between Wattana & traffic circle), it's the 2nd shop from the corner and the same side as CAT office.

Just back after a very delicious pizza here, and will definately go back often! Some pizzas around 130 baht, I had "4 Seasons" (quattro stagione) for 150 baht. Pastas on the menu were similarly value priced. Very clean and good atmosphere, nice man cooking and serving, gave his name card "Elio - Italian Chef."

I had the sausage pizza today.....my svelte body is usually good for 2-3 slices......but I managed to finish the whole thing off myself. 130 baht for the pizza, 20 baht for the coke. Worthy of a tip.

If anyone tries the seafood spaghetti, please post a review!

I went in for a spaghetti the other day, it was OK for an italian style spaghetti (I still like 2 hearts better).

Today I went for a pizza, this I will recommend, a 12" for 130 baht is a good deal.

Verbal directions (since I too had trouble finding it) if coming from the big Prajak Road circle on Udondutsadi Rd heading north towards Nongkhai, this place is just BEFORE the next stop light (almost right under the light), on the right side. Try to park before reaching the light, as parking on the same side of the restaurant is sometimes difficult.

I've been three times and mostly pleased, though be careful as some items may not be what one expects due to language issues. For example, a friend had Pepperoni pizza expecting meat as in the US version of pepperoni, what came was a vegetarian pizza with lots of sliced bell peppers on it. It was still good, just not what he thought it would be.

Be aware that his menu is only in Italian and Thai (no English menu). Also, with some food/product shortages he may have to substitute ingredients, so be sure to ask before ordering.
