Scott Walker is being tipped as a leading contender in the 2016 Republican presidential nominations but he dodged a question on Darwinism and evolution while in London this week.

Is it feasible that the US electorate could vote for a President that believes in creationism over Darwin's theory of evolution?

A lot of people in the so-called Bible Belt of the U.S. (North and South Dakota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Nebraska, and States further South) might do this, but they should be overwhelmed by the majority of people in the U.S.
You only pass through this life once, you don't come back for an encore.

So it begins again. Attack a candidate on his religious beliefs. Many US Presidents were either creationist or had no opinion on the issue. Can we focus on the economy instead.
Here is what we know so far about Walker

I think if a US presidential candidate has voodoo views on settled science, he's also likely to have voodoo views on the environment, economics and foreign policy. If he's a creationist he needs to persuade people that's not so.

I was born and raised in Missouri. Definitely in the Midwest and certainly considered to be a Bible Belt state. I can't even begin to remember all of the revivals I had to attend as a kid.mak wrote:Midwestern states are not considered part of the Bible Belt.Laan Yaa Mo wrote:A lot of people in the so-called Bible Belt of the U.S. (North and South Dakota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Nebraska, and States further South) might do this, but they should be overwhelmed by the majority of people in the U.S.
Oops, continuing to drift off topic. My apologies.

The larger question should be what factors will shape a candidate's decision making and appointment selection processes. What are the candidates' record to date on issues. Too often the press is not interested in researching a possible story but only wants one line answers as filler. Questioning Black Liberation theology or Social Justice theology is taboo in american journalism but any other theology is a fair target for criticism.
The HP wrote the article so I would go ask them.Who's attacking the candidate?

As to his qualifications to run the highest office of the land, -I'd have to ask what foreign policy credentials this guy has. Those are far more important going forward than our so-called "domestic policy", which, due to dominance by special interests on both sides of the aisle, make it almost ungovernable.
And, the likelihood of the dollar being unpegged as the Reserve Currency on the next Presiden't watch is nothing to sneeze at either.
At least get someone [Red or Blue] in who can manage us through that.

Yes, based on those pics Missouri is squarely in both, as are small parts of southwest Kansas, southern Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.2 pics that might help differentiate between "Midwest" and "Bible Belt".

Don't know why I was surprised really :-"
And as for the BIBLE BELT, wasn't that what these loonies used to beat their children who had the audacity to think for themselves, instead of believing what had been written in one of the earlier novels

hmmm.. "what are his foreign policy credentials??" and what were Akrkansas Bill Clinton's other than being a "Rhodes Scholar" as a young man? or Barack Obama's credentials?? That he lived in Indonesia as a kid for a few years?? Or George Bush for that matter.. Prior to the Presidency, zip, nada, nuthin' for all three.. So the accusation that Walker has "no foreign policy credentials" doesn't mean a thing.. I concur with the earlier poster that aside from the character assassination inherent in modern politics, they focus should be on what the man's views are on all these issues. A "gotcha" question on Darwinism is nonsense just as are the "expose's" on his not finishing college...

Mountains, it's because of the mountains. We couldn't move them when they were making the maps after booting the Brits back across the Atlantic.stattointhailand wrote:

Or was it that at the time the name was coined, it WAS the Mid-West.
That said, it used to be named North Central Region. More accurate. Who knows why they changed it? To confuse invading Russians? Gerrymandering? Anyone who can answer I'll buy you a snickers bar.
And back on topic, Scott Walker is anti-Wiccan BUT rides a Harley Davidson Road individual.
