Watched a good Documentary last night on Channel 4 here in the UK called Angry White and American. It showed vividly the ignorance of the White Supremacist's in the States today, and how the South was born off the backs of slaves as every big house had them. The frightening thing was, the reality that 1 day the Slaves would revolt against there white masters and today that worry is just as strong. If what was shown in this Documentary is true its little wonder Amerca is the way it is today. Some of the White Supremacists interviewed had no problem hiding behind the Confederate flag and killing black Afro Americans as its there given right, what planet are these people on it's not mine that's for sure. In a country that has had slavery as a major part of its history and now virtually has a version of it coming back (economic slavery) the once slave owners are becoming part of the the current group of slaves.
Though they can't see that they are being forced into slavery and would vehemently denied it, it makes them angry.
Thus it is very much stronger in the US than any other country

The OP seems to not reallze it wasn't America until almost 170 years (1607) after the English established settlements along with slavery. And almost 300 years (1492) after Europeans discovered N. America and established settlements and plantations and slavery.
1776 was just a hostile corporate takeover, and later, the Americans, set the slaves free.
Good thing there's no white supremacist groups in the UK ..

Of the 12 million Africans who were transplanted to the New World by Britain, Spain and Portugal, no more than 6 percent—around 400,000—went to the Northern Hemisphere. Almost all of them went to South America. Those Britons sure have a lot to answer for.
At the peak of slavery in the South, just 6% of Southern whites owned slaves. If you include the North, it means just 1.4% of white Americans owned slaves at the HEIGHT of slavery. It's hardly worth mentioning.
I see you have done a bit of homework Giggles and I also believe those figures are about right. So are you suggesting that the Poms are somewhat to blame for the racial hatred in the USA.

The much quoted 1860 Census has hugely different percentages than the ones you quote??

Yes, many do not realize this because they are influenced by those trying to rewrite history.
Slaves were expensive. A single slave of moderate physical fitness came at a cost of more than one-year's wages for the average person making a dollar a day in America. Additionally, there were few sales made on credit. It was cash on the barrel head. Very few Americans had that kind of money, which is why over 90% of Americans did NOT own slaves.
In addition, the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution -- all for the benefit of former slaves -- were ratified.
In the 21st Century, the current crop of activists have grown up in an America where there have been CEOs, a POTUS, ambassadors, senators, lawyers, doctors, surgeons, Supreme Court justices, scientists, Members of Congress, Secretaries of State, military generals, attorneys general, millionaire athletes, millionaire entertainers, and success and achievement in every walk of life for Black Americans. The current crop of activists ignore it all, but the list of Black Achievement in America is endless and up to the individual -- as it is with every culture.
Even when Ozombies and the Black Thug Mob and the NAACP get rid of all things that remind them of slavery (even though none of them were slaves), they will still keep reminding us all (WHO NEVER OWNED SLAVES) about the slavery that they NEVER experienced.

Owning a slave was much like owning a Ferrari. You couldn't afford one! No poor white dirt farmer was going to die or have limbs blown off simply so some rich guy could keep his slaves which he himself would never afford. Not going to happen. And irony of ironies is that Lincolns "emancipation proclamation", for which rubes today treat as almost divine, didn't apply to the northern states and was purely directed to the south which didn't recognize his authority. Pure theater by a corrupt and malevolent lawyer who had even made plans to move slaves out of the country. Assassination made him a saint, when saintliness was the furthest thing from his mind, by the very people he despised. Did I say it was ironic?

Yeah, I'm not sure that Jeff Bennett and the Federal Observer are the unbiased sources I'd be looking for if I were seeking authority for such information.

Interesting Giggle, I guess the 1790 American census (a time that was not the pinnacle of American slavery) was some how incorrect then???

Fewer than four hundred thousand slaves were brought to the American colonies by (mostly) British slave ships. I don't dispute that by 1790 there were more. Slaves can reproduce. Did you know that, Bob? Many slaves were born in the British colonies and then in the United States of America, but fewer than 400,000 were brought to what is now the U.S. by mostly British slave ships. Many times more than that were sent to South America and colonies in the Caribbean where the Spanish British, Dutch and French slave plantations dwarfed any of those in the American colonies. Still confused?

No Giggle you have used a source who has used other researchers data which they readily acknowledge is inaccurate simply because it suits your predetermined views.
Nothing more, nothing less...
How many slaves were there in the South at the time of the Civil War, or did they just reproduce 10 fold from your statistic??? I am surprised that their masters got any work out of them at all...
