Wokey, wokey! Rise and shine!
A readers letter.
"Reading the headlines last week, I could have sworn it was April 1 not June 1. The first was the MOD had appointed a Director of Diversity and Inclusion at £110k a year to lead a review into military titles and determine which ranks do not offer enough inclusivity.
A spokesperson said that after an assessment, positions and other titles will be rebranded if they cannot be gender-neutral. No doubt First Sea Lord will be the first to go.
Next was Met Chief Cressida Dick wanting to legalise positive discrimination in order to increase recruitment from minority ethnic and other groups. If this is allowed, it will not be the most qualified person who gets the job, but the one who ticks all the boxes. Is she not aware of Newton’s Law that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction?
And last but certainly by no means least, was Kings College London cravenly apologising to staff who complained about the use of Prince Phillip’s photograph in an email they had been sent. The apology read ‘We have come to realise the harm that this caused members of our community, because of his history of racist and sexist comments. We are sorry to have caused this harm’.
In 1984, George Orwell wrote: “Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.” Seeing what is happening in this country with the constant attacks on liberty and free speech, I cannot help but think that reshaping our minds is the intention of the woke brigade.
Be afraid, be very afraid."

I'd just like to add that the Students at one of Oxford University's colleges have voted to remove a portrait of the Queen from their common room. Members of Magdalen College Middle Common Room (MCR) deemed the image a symbol of "recent colonial history".

If you want an example of positive discrimination , look no further than South Africa . Didnt turn out well for them .

I have a few questions for those who wish to remove the statue of Cecil Rhodes at Oriel college , Oxford.
1. Do your principles go as far as also canceling all Rhodes Scolarships (worth $1.5million per year), and winding up the Cecil Rhodes Trust Fund for Education, standing at approximately £250 million?
2. Will you agree to an increase in your Uni fees to cover the expenses of those student who would have been awarded Rhodes Scolarships ?
3. Should those who have accepted Rhodes Scolarships in the past return to money?
Ominous silence

Re: Wokey, wokey! Rise and shine!
People need to be at the least aware of history, good or bad. Destroying pictures, statues and monuments will not remove history. It is a stupid act that accomplishes nothing except creating ignorance. Freedom of speech and religion is under attack and that is a dangerous thing. The PC pushers have made the term racism into a too much-used accusation. Common sense is lost and gone.

Re: Wokey, wokey! Rise and shine!
You won't get a answer on this from those who wish to cancel history and what history has given them. All they want to do is take the modern day benefits that history his given them, ignoring the fact that they only have what they have now, because of it. They wouldn't have a modern society to live in, if it wasn't for what the Cecil Rhode's of the world did, in the past.Bonanza wrote: ↑June 13, 2021, 7:26 amI have a few questions for those who wish to remove the statue of Cecil Rhodes at Oriel college , Oxford.

Those few who want to cancel history choose to ignore the fact that they do not own it (History) and that the history of the world, good or bad or in between, belongs to all of us.
On another note, these are the same idiots, who also advocate spending a fortune on Climate change prevention, whilst at the same time, they continually use and benefit from all the Luxuries/Advantages that modern day lifestyle, gives them, (i.e. ease of communications, travel, food, etc). They also conveniently forget that these "Luxuries/Advantage" do not just pop up from the earth surface, and they have limited or no comprehension of what it takes to manufacturer them and how much energy is involved in producing them at a reasonable cost.
On another note, one of Australia's better Prime Ministers was a Rhodes Scholar. Yes he was Labour (who are known for their Socialist's philosophy, in today's era), and yet Bob had the common sense to be educated at the University of Oxford, were he also managed to set a world record for "Downing a yard of ale in 11 second". If Bob was alive today, then I am sure he would have a different view, to those clowns, who want to remove the statue of Cecil Rhodes.

Re: Wokey, wokey! Rise and shine!
If the subject of slavery is to go the whole ten yards, then what about those AFRICAN leaders who with their soldiers captured and coerced many Africans to become people with which they made money by selling them to the traders/ship-owners etc.
Many did not mount expeditions into the hinterland, rather just p[icked them up at certain ports or anchorages and transport them . So if you are pillorying those who were involved from Western nations you should also hold top account African nations for their part in that trade, but of course NO-ONE mentions that do they !!!!!!!!!!!!!
