Thai Seafood factories under the Pump perhaps ?
Human Rights issues raised again with the huge seafood factories in Thailand.
Junta Leader promises to clean this up, but lots of people involved in the " Food Chain " they have been paid perhaps ??

I wont buy frozen shrimp ( Prawns ) again in Thailand, after reading these stories in depth.
I know its just symbolic, as its the American and EU markets that take it all.
Maybe Sanctions are the only way to make things change and hit the Thai companies in the pocket financially.
As we saw in the Human Rights investigation into Human Trafficking , the leader investigator feared for his life in the end and sought political asylum in Australia.
Years ago the Australian Professor at a well know Thai University in BKK, whose expertise was Bird Flu , formally advised the the Thai Govt that bird Flu was in Thailand. They rejected his clinical findings and called it bird cholera, despite surrounding countries have been declared as having Bird Flu etc
This Professor, received death threats and was taken to the Ausralian Embassy in Lao, where he then commuted home.
I read his reports and communication to the Min of Public Health , Min for Primary Industry and Agriculture etc, and his pathology results included, as 100's of Thai farmers were sending dead birds to BKK for autopsy by his department.
Thailand at that stage was the 4th largest exporter of chicken world wide and Millions of Kgs of frozen chicken were sitting on the wharf waiting export.

Now it is becoming publicly known. There is a European decision end of January 2016. Representatives of the EU will be coming to Bangkok next month to tell the results.
On December 18 there was a renewed warning given to Thailand:
EU warns Thailand to "promptly" address human rights, slavery issues to stave off seafood ban
Thailand was already yellow-carded in April this year.

It is cheap labour in Thailand that makes the rich richer and the main reason behind the need to control the people and keep them down, poorly educated and poor is the way the rich want the population to be.

Unfortunately for Thailand it is caught in the middle of the power struggle between the US and China. On the other hand Myanmar and Vietnam are on the US good guy list. The Vietnamese fishing industry exports Pangasius (Dory) fish to the US with no questions asked as to the conditions in their fish farms and processing plants. Since Myanamar elected Aung San Suu Kyi the US, Britian and the EU are happy and are willing to turn a blind eye to the racial and drug problems that plague Myanmar. Why? because they can make money and enslave the population. The US and the UK do not have clean hands and should not be lecturing other countries. Both countries allow slave labor conditions to exist if it benefits them. Fresh flowers in the US are imported from Central and South America were the conditions amount to slave labor. Apple manufactures its computer and cell phones in China in a tightly controlled production facility which would not be allowed in the US. The Thai shrimp slave labor story is a double win for the US elites. They get to bash Thailand and they get to bash Walmart and Costco which are nonunion.

Thailand has made it's choice and it is china. The chinese government has given it's full approval of the new government while the U.S. wants democracy in the region. Chinese influence will continue and you can expect a lot of chinese tourists and investment. After all it is mainly chinese thai that run the country anyway, their views and chinas are pretty much the same. As far as other countries in the area not being hassled for human rights issues I believe Burma has been under a lot of pressure to reform. I think the difference with Thailand and other asian countries is that Thailand had sold itself as a democracy and was expected to carry on with that and receive the benefits of doing so. It was a two way street but that has changed now. Western influence will decrease and chinese will increase. Not something I would want to live with.

As far as the possibly forthcoming ban of Thai seafood in the 28 countries bloc EU is concerned, Thailand surely does not act the best way:
