A rap song has been banned by the Court for being seditious and a threat to Thailand’s national security.

The song, Patiroob (meaning reform), by Rap Against Dictatorship, was blocked on the YouTube platform as a result of a Ministry of Digital Economy and Society petition to the Court that it should be prohibited under the terms of the Computer Crime Act ...

The band acknowledged the ruling and said they would remove the video and song from all its public platforms.

"R.A.D. is a band composed of multiple rappers. Its first single Prathet Ku Mee (My Country Has), released on 23 October 2015 on YouTube, has received over 106 million views. The band's songs address human rights issues, criticise authoritarianism, and promote gender equity.

In 2019, R.A.D. was one of the three winners of the 2019 Vaclav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent, which will be presented on 29 May at the Oslo Freedom Forum."

I'm surprised they (the rappers and not the mods) aren't facing serious criminal charges. Perhaps their status gives them a bit of initial protection.

The government did this with the female pop singers May and Kun Hu in the past although the former's singing career was ended with the ban. She now operates a clothing shop in Bangkok.

R.A.D. have been pushing the envelope since 2015 with Prathet Ku Mee which is still viewable on YouTube along with some other videos making a statement. I guess their 'initial protection' was used up on all the stuff before Patiroob, the banned song?

They don't have any special status that protects them from the laws here. AFAIK nobody has.
