Boris Johnson

Post by GT93 » July 13, 2019, 8:14 am

Well The Guardian columnists ( ) put the boot into Johnson and Hunt's poor performances:

John Grace:

"Feeble doesn’t begin to do it justice. It would have been more enlightening had both men stripped to their boxers and started arm-wrestling. Giant Haystacks versus Little Daddy. The host Julie Etchingham, who was rapidly emerging as the evening’s runaway winner, let out a primal scream of pain. As she tried to stop the two men squabbling, it gradually dawned on her that one of these men was going to wind up as prime minister. The country really was screwed. We’d be better off picking someone from the audience at random and give them the keys to No 10."

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... s-to-no-10

And Marina Hyde:

"After a week in which paddle-less Britain has found itself once more caught in dangerous transatlantic currents, it’s clear that there are two kinds of political men. Strong men and weak men. Which one is our most likely next prime minister? I’m afraid Boris Johnson is the worst kind: he’s a weak man who thinks he’s a strong man. See also selective antiracist Jeremy Corbyn, whose unshakeable conviction that he hasn’t been wrong in several decades has left him stubbornly incapable of being the bigger person. See also gratefully submissive Donald Trump fanboy Nigel Farage, who has spent much of the past three years hanging wanly around Washington on the off-chance of a half-hour 6pm burger with the alpha male to his beta. And see also Donald Trump himself, the leader of the free world, who spent about 48 hours this week tweeting like some homicidal 11-year-old Justin Bieber fan about the leaked comments of the British ambassador. Who, apparently, we now let him pick. More on toxic insecurity’s poster boy shortly."

GT 94: Given the very challenging political landscape in the UK, ideally the UK would be about to pick its best Prime Minister in the last 50 years. I fear it's getting its worst. If there's a hard Brexit, the UK will need a first rate Prime Minister who is a master of the big picture and the details. Johnson is clearly not going to be that man.

I just wonder who actually believes anything that "The Guardian" prints?

the Andrew Neil interviews emphasise what this Tory contest is really about: Brexit. The issue is whether or not Britain will leave on October 31, a commitment that shapes strategy. Jeremy Hunt told Mr Neil that he “expects” to leave by Christmas but won’t guarantee it. He wants to avoid a no-deal scenario, as does Boris Johnson, but the problem with refusing to commit to October 31 is that the EU will assume Mr Hunt won’t walk away from the negotiating table – and thus will probably offer him the exact same deal it gave to Theresa May.

I thought Boris did well at the G7 meeting at Biarritz. The serious Johnson is leagues ahead of the clown Johnson.

You didn't watch the press conference at the G7 breakfast, did you?

Trump said Boris didn't need any advice and that he's the right man for the job.

Really? Ask former Australian Prime minister Gough Whitlam for a little clarification. [-X

It was the Attorney General who made that call. The Queen simply signed off on it as requested. Just a figurehead …

Governor-General John Kerr carried out the orders of the person who appointed him. One guess who that is. Hardly apolitical and hardly democratic. John Locke would be nauseated.
