coastal towns will have to be abandoned

Post by yartims » August 24, 2019, 9:07 pm

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/sinking-feeli ... 50890.html

Many coastal towns should be abandoned because of rising sea levels, a group of experts has warned.

Environmental researchers at Harvard University say authorities around the world have to accept the inevitable.

They warn that the impact of climate change is going to mean coastal towns around the world disappearing.

And instead of wasting billions of pounds trying to save them, governments should make a “managed retreat” from many of the towns.

Oceanographer John Englander has a very informative blog about sea level rise.

Does this mean that my area will become crowded? Our home is 319 meters above sea level. We don't suffer from floods either.

A major coastal city of 10 million plus people to the south of here will have to be shifted to high ground soon
Not talking about Bangers but Jakarta
Not the seas rising but the land sinking at a measurable rate of 170mm (6inches) a year

Agreed, probably not in the few years most posters on here have left on this planet but what we currently occupy is going to radically change. Not only the ice melt and greater evaporation causing more rain and floods but less space and arable land for the ever expanding population, 4 or 5 generations in the future are going to have a hard time. Is it a natural phenonomen or a man made disaster, who knows, probably a bit of both.

While I could post scientific reports that refute a dangerous rising of sea level, I'm not inclined to undertake a useless task. As Mark Twain observed, "It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.”

guess the Obamas made a bad investment buying that 15 million dollar mansion on Martha's Vineyard eh? Frankly I don't see much concern about sea level rise in the real estate markets of those cities that supposedly will be affected. When we see those cities long term bonds turning to junk bonds and investors fleeing you can then believe inundation is imminent!!!

I thought the same about Bayrack's new mansion on the island coast.

In areas affected by rising water in the US, private homeowners insurance is unobtainable, which means that it's not so easy to secure a loan from the bank. I find it funny that it hasn't been widespread in every coastline in the world if the believers are serious about rising sea levels. But nope. That property is still selling for millions of dollars and being financed and insured.

Like you said , if that starts being the case on every coastline, then we'll know that globalist banks are taking mmcc as seriously as they expect us to take it seriously . After all, banks always like to protect their loan collateral.

If the Obamas are still there in 2090, their investment may be turning a little problematic.

In the meantime, no-one is predicting dramatic rises in sea levels over the next 40-50 years. And the property would be easily snapped up by a rich oil executive or other denier.

Indonesia is planning a new capital, as Jakarta is sinking rapidly. OK, sea level rise is only a small part of the problem, but in the long term it makes Jakarta very much a lease on borrowed time.

I would not worry too much about sea levels, instead what is going to happen to the working people in 50 or 60 years when robots and computers take over. Massive amounts of unemployed and governments with no tax revenue to support them. This is a much greater issue for the future.

Bangkok's problem is two fold. Bangkok itself is sinking. If you drive from Bangkok to Chanchoensao you will see that bridges are at least a meter above the road. I was told that the bridges are built on deep driven pilings and don't sink. Those bridges were even with the road when built. The road has sunk at least a meter since the bridges were built.

Robots and computers eh. Could it be as bad as when combustion engines and electricity were were introduced, throwing untold millions out of work, most businesses ruined and states completely undone . Oh tell me that it isn't so. LOL
