Being born and raised in north western Ohio farm country, I was insulated from life in dangerous areas. I have been to a lot of countries and southern Kalifornia was the most dangerous place I have ever lived. Here in Thailand, there is no doubt we have our share of thieves, BUT, violent thieves are still rare. The Thai police are apt to shoot first and sort it out later although they are much more restrained these days. I do feel sorry for the people who have to live in high crime areas. It appears to me that drugs are more dangerous than most people realize.
Drugs have always been a problem, for years as a Police Officer, we knew people were high, but with ZERO tests, practically impossible to detect or prove, this is now history as tests have evolved, but unlike alcohol it has a seriuous devastating effect on any human and creates mdesires almost impossible to supplky munless yopu turn to crime and those that supply them know this.
Sadly the so-called Woke brigade plus hundreds of other groups for the sad and lonely and those seeking excitment, Crime in America has ballooned out of all proportion aprt from driving around in a tank and having armed guards looking after you , everyone is fair game it seems.

You're exaggerating there KP. I like to watch the youtuber "No time to be sad". He (Chuck) is usually based in Isan but has recently posted daily videos for a couple of months from Texas and it wasn't like that at all. I was impressed at the high quality of life in middle class Texas. I was wondering why the hell he would return to Thailand given the high quality of life in Texas. He was out and about a lot, even at night, and I can't recall crime being a problem. The US is a wealthy and in parts still a safe country.

You are both right, parts of the U.S. are great, others not so much.

^ I wonder what color the folks advising you of the 'wrong color' danger zones were?

No. No I don't actually.

fact is, in most cities there are places any person with half a brain will avoid. Same applies pretty much anywhere in the world. My daughter was out in Portland Oregon visitng a friend a couple of months ago. She said she liked it a lot and was quick to add she didn't go "downtown" where the majority of protests, riots and crime occur.

While on a vacation trip, I got off the highways and went through south Chicago. I was scared shitless and started thinking what could possibly go wrong with my car. Even thinking about it scared me. I was very happy when I got back on a highway.

Years ago we were moving to Lake County North of Chicago. Met my wife in Chicago for a weekend so we could house hunt. Got lost getting out of downtown and drove right through Cabrini Green projects. When I told people in the office what had happened they just shook their heads. Since I didn't know anything about Cabrini Green. Found out the fire department wouldn't even go there without a police escort.

There are not enough hours in a day or breaths left in my lifetime to even comment let alone "incessantly whine" about every time there is an incident with guns in America.
Another one who never misses an opportunity to pile on America whenever a thread pops up. That is, unless he starts the thread himself. And look at the avatar he has chosen.

No, "there are not enough hours in a day or breaths left" in his lifetime to even comment. Yet he comments all the time.

Look at your posts. You'll get so tired going through them all.

Don't need to "pile in on America", it would appear they are perfectly capable of shooting themselves in the foot without any help

Apparently, there are not enough important hours in your life to do anything BUT whine about incidents with guns in America.

It is what you do repeatedly.

Interesting that you have chosen to focus on a relatively minor contributor to the US gun law discussions on the Map over the years, Declan.

Despite the muddled, and today totally incomprehensible 1791 (yes, really - 240 years ago) 2nd amendment to the now outdated US constitution, intelligent people know it is a crock.

Statto is spot on when he says "it would appear they are perfectly capable of shooting themselves in the foot without any help".

* * *

Statto put himself in a box with his own comments. I fully expected his allies to come to the rescue.

The Constitution is only "outdated" if something is changed by the citizens of the United States. Until any such change or amendment occurs, the Constitution is the law of the land and fully up to date.

As always, you can believe whatever you want to believe about anything. Thankfully, it has no impact on me or America.

Yes, the self-appointed sheriff has at least 3 or 4 know-it-all deputies and a couple of Barney Fifes bringing up the rear.
