Really? What planet is she on? Hopefully the brief summary isn't the best and she was more nuanced than that.

Long weekend out here too.

Sweet old woman? Perhaps.

I see Meghan Markle and her simp husband got a jolly good boo from the crowd as they left St Paul's Cathedral:

I expect they'll again be pissing all over the House of Windsor in the next 12 or so months. Sure, Prince Charles is a fallible dude, but I reckon he tried his best with William and the simp. It's a shame the British Army wasn't able to sort out the simp.

I note BoJo and his missus* were booed by the Great Unwashed at St Paul's this morning.

"Boris Johnson has received a mix of boos and cheers on his arrival to the thanksgiving service for the Queen."

So not the "Great Unwashed" just some of them. Ernie.
Hang on, I never said that, yes, the bit in black at the bottom, readers.

Still fresh?? Abolished in Great Britain in 1807. Whereas you lot fought a Civil war because of slavery from 1861-65 and still classed people of colour as unequal's up until the later part of the last Century. Stupid trolling again peps

in jamaica alone you sent 600,000+ slaves. how do we know this? it's all carefully recorded in u.k.
archives as they were listed as " property "

the guardian did a write-up on all this . 50,000 slave owners in u.k. , many some of the most prominent, celebrated names in brit history

and then , when slavery slowly in reality abolished
maybe 1840, all these slave owners compensated
by u.k. treasury. loan finally paid off in 2015

And in his speech Charles calls the Queen "Mummy". How pathetic is that?

Really? Very. Come on Prince Charles. You are a mature man.

Upper class Brits are strange folks. I suppose a fair few of their ancestors were in pepesgrill's 50,000 figure.

seems we must repent over something that happened over 200 years ago by a company operating out of great Britain, seems poops thinks it was something to do with our monarchy

No need to fret BD. The Oedipus complex has been largely dismissed by the psychoanalytic community.

In the distant past the British royals had some form with slavery:
Jamaica has called on the Queen and the UK to pay millions of pounds in reparations for its role in the slave trade.

Ministers in the Caribbean nation are asking for the equivalent of the compensation given to slaveholders in the 1830s when slavery was abolished in the British empire.

The Royal Family are historically linked with the slave trade around the world, and have been accused of continuing to benefit from it despite its abolition hundreds of years ago.

Elizabeth I
It was the Queen's ancestor Elizabeth I who gave a ship to Sir John Hawkins in 1564 for one of his voyages, having been impressed with his previous capture of 300 Africans.

Royal Museums Greenwich said: "His missions were so lucrative that Queen Elizabeth I sponsored his subsequent journeys and provided ships, supplies and guns. She also gave him a unique coat of arms bearing a bound slave."
All in Prince Charles's in-box. Good luck.

So we should all wear sack cloth and pour ashes over our heads for something that happened in 1564. Get a grip, there are some really unsavory happenings on you rock in far more recent times that we will not go into on a thread started to celebrate our present Monarch reigning for 70 years.

I will leave it to Prince Charles to sort out the current issue with Jamaica. Clearly he's got other problems besides his second son.

There's nothing limiting this thread to celebrating my Monarch's 70 years. The good, the bad and the ugly are all on topic.

Yes, you are correct that we have plenty of problems in New Zealand.

Yes there is. There's simple forum etiquette of trying to stay on topic. Yes, we are all guilty of those inopportune moments and lately, my personal UM minder makes sure that nobody misses mine.

However, when you have already created or contributed to threads discussing the monarchy and republicanism, why do you so cavalierly abandon them and persistently try and drag other, newer threads completely off topic?

Really? Most readers would think the topic is the Platinum Jubilee not the good, the bad and the ugly.

The title is neutral. It doesn't say celebrating. If there are protests and boos over the last few days, that's all on topic. As is the whole 70 years.

The title is specific. The focus is the Platinum Jubilee in the here and now. If the focus was on the whole reign, the title would reflect that. It is true that it does not say celebrating.
