RE Bore/well

Post by mr passout » November 10, 2014, 8:18 am

I am trying to find out if some knows about reboring existing bore/well,also to repair the rubber flange gaskets.
Tried to pull apart, but it seems somehow all inter connect, this is a deep well with the pipes going to pump.
The metal casing where the two pipes come out of the ground then converts back to pvc to hook onto pump. The flange there are all inter connected to what seems a spear.
so its all connected and even hard to cut to put new flange gasket on?
Thus anyone know a good repair man that specialises in water bores and pumps.also like to do a rebore to hopefully hit a better pocket on the water table, less salt.
Thanks

I'm certainly no expert by any means. Your deep well pump plumbing will be connected at the bottom of the well so the entire pipe assembly will come out together. You will have to drill a new well because they won't be able to re-bore through the existing casing. Get a good local driller who knows the area. I had one drilled and the local driller gave me a price of 35,000 baht and a guaranty of good water regardless of the depth. He hit a strong well at 25 meters but the water was too hard. He ended up at 39 meters and it is a good strong well with no salt and few minerals. I have a one HP submersible pump. My pump is a four inch in a six inch casing.

You will not be able to re bore the old well, you will have to bore a new well, they can only drill solid ground. The casing only runs down the shaft between 4 and 6 metres depending how far they can get it down. The maximum depth a deep well pump will go is 24 metres, a spear pump will go slightly deeper, example my Hitachi deep well pump go's down 24 metres, my well is 54 metres deep, the water runs up the bore.
Last Xmas I had to re-bore my well because I wasn't using it enough and the sides had collapsed preventing good water flow, I drilled the new bore 1.5 metres from the old, 54 metres deep, cost 8,000 baht, I run this all year now and its got good flow.

Thanks for the responses, you don't happen to have a contact coxo of the bloke who done your new bore?
My biggest problem is access for a drill rig.

I can get it for you via PM, they are out at the Phen area, don't think there vehicle will travel to far. Don't want to post there number on the forum due to the over abundance of cheap charlies in Udon!!!

If access is a problem, depending how deep you have to go down to reach your water, you could have one dug by hand.
A friend of mine recently had this done by a company, the owner of which was an x Government water employee, he charged 300bht per concrete ring plus the cost of the ring. I believe he dug down about 10mtrs.
If you need a small rig they are out there the one shown was used to bore our well a couple of years ago out in Kut Chap, the well is still going strong with no probs so far, he went down about 30mtrs, 11,000bht, all done in one morning. Number is on the side of the truck.

Thanks again for all the posts so far,i am in the process of trying to fix it myself(hopefully).
The original problem started when the water pump casing blew a pin hole through the bottom of the pump reservoir, tried to fix that and just escalated from there.cheers

These guys are rough tough and ready, his water divining skills are excellent, the new bore was 1.5 metres from the old bore, his divining showed no water at the old and 1.5 metres away water, the bore has good water, the ground is solid bauxite, it took nearly two days to go down 54 metres and cost 8,000 baht, I think a little cheaper as they are friends of the good old mother in law! You can see how close they are to the old bore in the photo's.

I am going to get a bore sunk very soon, any reccomendations as to what type of pump is best I would like one that is on demand, the SIL across the road has a bore but every time you want water you have to go and switch the pump on I want to avoid this problem if I can.

Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks.

A shallow well pump can only draw water from about 8 meters down. A deep well pump from deeper but you lose capacity. A submersible pump pushes the water out and can be used for a very deep bore hole. To save wear and tear on a submersible pump, I fill an added tank of 1,000 liters, actually two cement jars for 2,000 liters total and use a common shallow well pump to pump that to the house. We use about 500 liters per day so you fill the jars about every 4 days. Some people use the submersible with a pressure switch but in my opinion, that is too hard on the pump because of constant starting and stopping.

I have a simple set up, I run a deep well pump to a 2,000 litre plastic storage tank controlled by ball valve. I then run to a domestic pressure pump from the tank to the house, it works great, I have good pressure right through from the shower to garden hoses. I run a deep well pump 24 met deep 'Hitachi', now nearly ten years old and a 'Hitachi pressure pump to the house which is about a 150, again ten years old and going strong. Make sure when gluing your pvc water pipes that all join surfaces are sanded prior to applying glue. I set the valves at the tank from the well to a very slow flow rate so I don't suck the hell out of the bore.
