I like Bud Grant as well. His teams won four Grey Cups and he led the Vikings to the Super Bowl four times. Unfortunately they lost all four games. One of those Super Bowl loses was to the the Kansas City Chiefs. Grant is a tough dude and one of the most respected head coaches in the game.

Bud is 94 years old and still kickin'.
Good for old steely blue eyes. I knew he was an all-star offensive end for Winnipeg, but I did not know that he also intercepted 5 passes in one game for the Bombers. Also, I did not know that he played in the NBA: "After two seasons in the NBA, Grant decided to end his professional basketball career.[1] He contacted the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL[1] and agreed to play for the team during the 1951 NFL season.[7] In his first season with the Eagles, Grant played as a defensive end and led the team in sacks (an unofficial statistic at the time).[1][7] He switched to offense as a wide receiver for his second season with the club and ranked second in the NFL for receiving yardage, with 997 yards on 56 catches, including seven touchdowns.[7][18]

Grant's contract expired at the end of the 1952 NFL season and the Eagles refused to pay him what he thought he was worth.[1] The Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL had been interested in Grant while in college.[1] Grant left for Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1953 and became the first professional player to "play out his option" and leave for another team.[1][7] He played for the Blue Bombers until 1956 as an offensive end and was named a Western Conference all-star three times.[12][19] He led the Western Conference in pass receptions for the 1953, 1954, and 1956 seasons and receiving yards for the 1953 and 1956 seasons.[12] He also holds the distinction of having five interceptions in a playoff game, played on October 28, 1953, which is a CFL record.[4][20] The Blue Bombers played for the Grey Cup in 1953, but lost to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 41st Grey Cup game."[12] - Wiki

Enjoyed that Declan. Some great moments recalled. Lamar Hunt was a truely a man with a vision. The game today owes a lot to those early pioneers of the sport.

While watching the Super Bowl history I was reminded of the very early days of the Kansas City Chiefs. H.L. Hunt, the father of Lamar Hunt was an American oil tycoon and may have been the world's richest man at one time. When advised that his son Lamar had lost a million dollars on the operation of the new AFL football team, Mr. Hunt quipped that at that rate Lamar would be broke in a hundred years.

I thought it was a pretty interesting video with some trivia thrown in for good measure. I had forgotten how quickly the AFL became so competitive as a league to cause the NFL to want to merge (not just the wins by the Jets and Chiefs in III and IV).

And yes, Lamar Hunt was a trailblazer for professional football.

Unfortunately it’s difficult to cut and paste from my phone, but if anyone gets a chance they need to check out Peyton Manning on SNL Weekend Update from last night on YouTube. It was funny as hell.

A great come back win for the Cincinnati Bengals and Joe Burrow to beat the Chiefs 27 to 24.

The Underdog Bowl.
The Super Bowl will feature two No. 4 seeds, which makes it the lowest-seeded Super Bowl matchup since playoff seeding began.
There has never been a Super Bowl without a No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3 seed.
This Super Bowl will also feature the most combined losses in the game’s history. The Bengals have lost seven times, and the Rams have lost five times, bringing the combined total to 12.
Nonetheless, it should be a good game.

IMHO the Chiefs defence has been well below average in this playoff season and they didn't deserve a Super Bowl appearance. Just scraping through the last few games. In saying that Maholme busted his guts with some very fancy leg work to try and get the offence on top of the situation.

Stafford vs. Burrow is just the second time that both Super Bowl starting quarterbacks were first overall picks.
The NFL never had a home Super Bowl team for 54 Super Bowls. Now we’ve seen two in a row: Tampa Bay last year, the Rams this year.

Jeff Burrow led the L.S.U. Bengal Tigers to a National Championship. Can he do the same for the Cincinnati Bengals?

Football fans in Buffalo, of course, can't help thinking about 13 measly seconds remaining on the clock.

And, L.S.U. Bengal Tigers

the Bengal Tiger in Louisiana Military Heraldry dates back to 1838 with the formation of the Washington Artillery of New Orleans (which per Peter Finney and Dan Hardesty) was one of the units the University got the name from. - https://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/lsu ... /71359301/

Right. Thanks. Who am I thinking of? I remember Roman Gabriel and Norm VanBrocklin (sp) quarterbacked the Rams. Also, I think the Cleveland Rams became the L.A. Rams a few years back in the late 40s

No, it was probably Jeff Burroughs of the Texas Rangers baseball team.

That makes sense. Burroughs had a long career in MLB. An accomplished player for a lot of years.
