Lance Armstrong. Drug cheat???

Post by udonmarc » October 11, 2012, 10:42 am

Read this, Run, Swim, Throw, Cheat. It's amazing what goes on. And the best part (detailed in the book) is that most of what athletes and coaches do in the hormone/chemical cheating department doesn't actually make any difference!! As the book pointed out about a German track coach, he "was convicted of a crime he shouldn't have bothered committing."

Rules are rules. If you're wrong, you're wrong. Suffer the consequences. Move on.

It's really not complicated. :D

Lance Armstrong. Drug cheat???

One way of looking at this is from the view point of the competiors /rivals who raced against Armstrong at the time or in his drug fest hayday ,,,,,,,,,could they have won - beat him this must grind at them ,, and annoy the hell out of them ,,,,,, just waiting now for the bokk " my drug lies" ,,,, or the movie " i never failed a drugs test " ...

IMO there are way more important issues in the world than mr Armstrong drug mistermeaners .........

got a spare bike mate ??

Lance Armstrong. Drug cheat???

Post by FrazeeDK » October 12, 2012, 9:11 pm

so if Armstrong and his entire U.S. Postal racing team were doing it, what does that say about the rest of the sport?? After all, Armstrong and all these guys were getting tested regularly back then and evidently beating the tests.. What's to say that all the big players in biking weren't equally using the same doping technology as Armstrong and his boys??

It appears that almost all were on drugs which levels the playing field. His dominance was still obvious. Being a cancer survivor I can say he is a inspiration for many people to fight the fight. It is so easy to give up and a major challenge to fight. I remember many who didn't fight.

Very true akwoodworker, they can tarnish his reputation as much as they like, but they CANNOT take away the hope and inspiration that he has given to so many over the years, nor the money that his foundation has provided to help so many

The disgrace is complete.
Armstrong banned, stripped of Tour titles

The fate of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong's was sealed on Monday, as cycling's under-fire world governing body decided to back a life ban for doping and strip him of his record seven Tour de France titles.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) said it supported a decision by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to erase the Texan's career and his place in the sport's history.

"We will not appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and we will recognise the sanction that USADA has imposed," UCI president Pat McQuaid told a news conference in Geneva.

"The UCI will strip him of his seven Tour de France wins. Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling..........

Sad, but definitely warranted in my opinion.

I doubt the UCI had much choice in the matter - based both on the evidence, and the likelihood it would have joined Armstrong as an international pariah had it chosen to close its eyes (again).

Lance Armstrong asked to repay $7.5m bonus to insurance firm
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/20029617
The insurance policy was taken out by Tailwind Sports, the then owner of the US Postal team, to cover performance bonuses that would be due to Armstrong if he won the Tour.

SCA refused to pay out the money because it argued Armstrong was not a clean rider.

Armstrong took legal action against the company and won, because the contract between the parties stipulated that the money would be payable if Armstrong was the "official winner" of the Tours from 2004 to 2006.

The company was forced to pay money relating to the bonus of $5m, plus $2.5m in interest and legal fees.

SCA will now attempt to recover that sum from Armstrong.
Ouch!!

It is interesting the witch hunt for Armstrong. I think they should give the titles to the second place riders for those seven years but they know that everyone was doping and it would just start another witch hunt. By not naming a winner they are avoiding exposing everyone else even though I think it would be the right thing to do. As of now it makes Armstrong look like he was the only one and that in itself does not seem fair.If they are going to test for drugs they should test everyone win or lose.

Oh dear! - doesn't Armstrong have a best friend who can tell him not to make a complete dick of himself?

I guess you need a huge ego to rationalise being the biggest drug cheat in sporting history. [-X
Armstrong picture sparks anger

Disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong posed provocatively on Sunday with his framed seven Tour de France winners jerseys, tweeting a picture of him in his Austin home - unleashing dozens of comments for and against the Texan.

"Back in Austin and just layin' around," said Armstrong to accompany the picture of him lying on a sofa below the jerseys a month after the US doping authorities stripped him of his seven titles and wiped his career record.........
