Reassuring for England fans

England practiced penalties at the end of training to prepare for a shootout in the knockout stages, although they did so without a goalkeeper between the posts - and some players still missed.

I suppose now the question is what about if you get your free TV stations via CTH satellite. Are they going to be blocked again like they were last time (WC or Euros, can't remember). Do I need to go buy an aerial to get the stations direct.

For those of you who have been in a Buddhist temple for the last few months, and are not aware, the 2014 World Cup finals start in Brazil today.
The first match features the hosts,Brazil, against Croatia. The kick off time is 9pm GMT which relates to 3am Friday morning here in Thailand so its going to be an early start or late night for us viewers.
With the tournament being in South America most of the kick off times are not great for South East Asia.
Englands first match against Italy kicks off at 5am Thai time Sunday morning.
Australias opener against Chile starts at 5am Saturday morning.

Lets hope for a feast of good football over the next 31 days.......
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Spain v Netherlands at 2am on Saturday is a repeat of the 2010 Final and should be well worth watching.
How on earth are we going to cope with these early morning kick offs for the next 31 days ? Difficult enough when its an occassional Champions League game during the season. :|
I predict there will be a huge increase in absenteeism in the Thai workplace over the next month ! 8)

Looking forward to numerous games even tho the viewing times are so bad here , the 11pm is fine / 5 am not so good / others a definate no no for me .

It appears that the word on the street is that many places around town that are staying open for all the BIG games ... time will tell if any of these venues have punters show up .

Carmorn Aussies , Iran .......... and ENGERLAND .

Just seen on the TV that the Thai Junta have told the controlling company that all World Cup games are to be show free as part of their Happiness Campaign

Brazil 3 (Neymar 29,71 pen) Croatia 1 (Marcelo og 11)

An excellent game to get the tournament underway but the match was overshadowed by a shocking referee decision to give Brazil a penalty when Fred threw himself onto the floor when backing into Croatian defender,Lovren.
Croatia took a shock lead on 11 minutes when Brazil defender Marcelo deflected a shot come cross into his own net.
Neymar equalised for Brazil on 29 minutes but Croatia were looking good for a draw until the controversial penalty.
Brazil were hanging on nervously in the last few minutes with keeper Cesar having to make a couple of deflected saves but as Croatia continued to push forward,Brazil broke away and Oscar slotted home the third in injury time.
So,a winning start for the hosts, but Croatia will feel hard done by......their keeper had a poor game,as well.

I'd tip them BOTH to get to the knockout stages Socksy ....... Ronaldo is still carrying his knee injury (off after 20 min training) and without him they will struggle to qualify. Germany should finish top, but I'd be surprised if Ghana don't finish runners up.
As for Algeria, they are in a group of mediocrity ...... don't think Begium are anywhere near as good as some make out, Russia are suffering with key withdrawls through injury and South Korea may or may not have one or two good games, but they are not a "surprise packet" anymore as the others seem to take them more seriously.

Unfortunately Statto they are my 'out of the hat' to win the tournament. I think France's B or C team at the Toon would do better.

At least this comp is a chance for the "Toon Army" to see all the players that they will (or already have) been linked with as potential buys during the transfer window :-k
The one's they will get are those that pick up serious injuries or those doing the same as you and I ..... sitting at home watching on TV

They're paid as much as Hollywood stars as well. They probably practise all these dives maaka. It's a core part of the game.

I'm going to support Algeria unless they're big time into diving and acting like school girls.

Not a bad idea GT (socksy will be happy to have a fellow fan :-" )

I was wondering if they don't have a bit of an advantage over the others ........
When an Algerian player receives the ball, it will vanish under his caftan and nobody will know which player is in possession, and therefore cannot tackle them. If they all shuffle up field together they can get a shooting chance before anyone realises who had the ball.
