53rd min and Kane scores .......... wait a minute var is going back to check a possible foul just before half time

var still i love with hairy armpits then

Scrouge has been given the var job for this gameweek

Pretty obvious var guy doesnt have Harry Kane in his fantasy team
And the double VAR that denied Wolves/enabled Liverpool? OK, the Lallana one was a non-event and everyone saw it was his shoulder... only the VAR guys saw fit to intervene.

That Wolves offside wasn't flagged by the linesmen or the referee or more importantly by any of the Liverpool players. In that instance, VAR doesn't need to intervene as nobody there, not one of the players, officials or the 53,326 pairs of eyes in the stadium saw any offside infringement.

I understand that the referee has the right to not accept the VAR decision but to do that, he would need to do the on-field review on the screen on the touchline and the EPL, while adding their own rules, have strongly discouraged them from doing that.

Contentious can o' worms.

Congrats to Emerton who now have 2 wins on the trot =D> =D> and find themselves level on points with Brucies pre season relegation certs

BTW I see those old sayings "what goes around comes around" and "it always evens itself out" have been proved correct yet again :-k

Every time a decision or Var goes against Sheff Utd a decision or Var will be awarded to Liverpool to make up for it

The off side law is out of date now we have VAR. I like the idea Graham Souness has suggested. It'll still come down to millimetres but a lot more goals will be scored.

You know my views on VAR, I still think they were wrong to introduce it BEFORE they got it working correctly. 5 months of week after week c*ck ups. I want to be entertained when watching football (even as a toon fan) and they have removed the entertainment from the game. If they are so desperate to have a clinical game with zero room for error, go away to Stockley Park and sit at the screens and play "football manager" or "FIFA20" or whatever the kiddies games are called.
Someone needs to tell Mike Riley where to stick VAR ........ it would only take 14 of the 20 clubs to say "get rid" and its history

Yes, Souness makes a good point... not bad considering he's Jockinese eh DM?

There's the whole silly saga about (I think) Firmino's armpit being ruled offside on a previous VAR review in a previous game. If it can only be measured by 'pixels' on their high-res VAR screens, it should be ignored. I know that horse race photo-finishes can be decided by a nose but in case one hasn't noticed, horses noses are bigger and they tend to be moving a lot faster than Richarlison anyway.

Another one is the nonsense 'encroachment' call and the penalty kick needing to be retaken. It's like allowing a mulligan in golf IMHO... you just don't do it. Yes, if the GK clearly moves forward off his line towards the ball just before the kick. Yes, if an attacking player's body and one of his two feet is well into the area when the kick is taken, that's a fair call but once again we are seeing only parts of bodies being deemed as 'encroaching'. An elbow, a bent knee as he pushes off... an armpit!

It is dumbing down the on field referee's and linesmen's responsibilities and does not by any stretch of the imagination make for fairer and smoother play.

Agree with what you are saying Tam but with the number of camera's used by the media ready to pounce on every mistake by a referee it should be used as a tool to assist ref's. If it a guys thumb or his arse that is offside that is clearly not an offside advantage and should not be seen as that. However up in my less sophisticated end of the homeland a recent cup final was decided by the only goal of the game where 3 attacking players were clearly offside and one of them scored from that. Then there was boxing day where a shot was deflected into the goal of an attacking players hand/lower arm. (amazingly the same team again) Where games are worth potentially millions in revenue to clubs and players every effort should be used to prevent incorrect decisions by referee's. Seems to work well enough in Rugby.

You mean this shocker?
offside.jpg
YouTube and other social media is already chock full of clearly offside video clips. I have absolutely no problems with VAR if it erases these egregious oversights by the on field officials and makes them and the players a bit more honest. However, the VAR that catches the sub-millimeter infraction and thus overturns an exciting end play defeats the purpose.

IMO .. goaline technology is a great asset .. but thats it ... this VAR is a load of tosh defining offsides , red cards , handballs and penalties etc takes a lot of the edge from a game .. VAR should be chucked in the bin along with the EU and is the worst thing since the Graham Souness perm .

If VAR has to "overturn" an on field decision, it should be forced to make the change in less time than it takes to walk to the fridge, take out a beer and flip the ring pull.. If the beer is open the goal stands

Quiz just asked what Mikel Arteta's first job should be at Arsenal?

apparently "find them an easier league to play in" wasn't the right answer :-$

BreakingDISALLOWED GOAL

Burnley 0-0 Aston Villa

NO GOAL.

I don't want to play any more. Ridiculous.

Wesley, who went up for a header before the ball was cleared out initially, is ruled to be offside. He isn't. Shambles.

Only took 5 mins of the weekends fixtures for footie to be overshadowed by computer games again

^ Sky was reporting that it took 3 minutes for VAR to rule that Grealish's heel was 3 pixels offside.

Never mind, they got 2 legit ones later.
