Smith is not out yet Statts and it is unlikely he will get out when they are bowling 99% of balls to him 3 feet outside off stump. If the rain doesn't stop him I'd still expect him to be somewhere around 300no by stumps on day 5. If they do it for the rest of the series we'll win 1 - 0 with 4 draws. Will be riveting English cricket.

Mentos very evident at Lords as the first test pie chucker Woakes was swinging it around yesterday.

Test cricket! What a wonderful reason for a nap. About as interesting as American Football. Even the Yanks version of rounders is more exciting.

The 'ring in' hits the GPSB in the head. What a day of cricket. Sport at it's best. We always say in cricket if ya can't get em out knock em out. Well done Archer although laughing at the bloke on the deck was a bit beyond the pale. Will be nice to get the chance to bowl to the West Indian today to try to reciprocate the head shot and hopefully he doesn't get up and can't play on. Result still well on the cards.

That seriously was one of the grandest examples of quick bowling you could ever see at any ground in the world.

B*gger me ..... no bl**dy pleasing some people is there ...

Yer complain that the bowlers are bowling 3 ft outside the off stump, then yer complain when they put em right down the middle

As my ex loony next door neighbour would say ...... "The Lord works in mysterious ways"

If the boys at the top had grown anything like a set of balls Smiffy wouldn't have been anywhere near Lords to get concussed ....... he would be serving his LIFETIME ban for cheating along with ALL other players of ANY country found guilty of Cheating the paying public

At least the RAIN was English.

Fears that the third test will have to be cancelled as the "crooked" Aussie batsmen is Crook and all the other have gone walkabout

Joe Root can't make a run and blatant cheat. Least he's a pom.

Kiwi makes 100. West Indian rattles the stumps and the helmets. Couple of South Africans one of whom made a run or two. A Paki who often gets a start but never goes on with it. Have I missed anyone? Shouldn't be allowed to be called The Ashes. It's a dead set disgrace. Players should only be allowed to play for their country of birth.

100% agree ..... it's a bloomin' disgrace. Not sure how many corner shops would be left open in England, or how many offshore operations etc would survive, if working regulations limited everyone to working in/for your own country only though :-k

The poms with Joffra's inclusion have by far perverted the use of the player eligibility rule to allow him to be included. They changed the criteria to get him in the team early by a couple of years. He moved to England in 2015. The 7 year citizenship rule was not adhered to. 2022 was to be his first time to be picked. The ICC have failed, just because he wanted to play for England should not make it a reason to move the goalposts. But it is what it is now. I suppose cheating can be seen in many ways, off the field with administration or even by slight of hand or hiding Minties or sandpaper in your pocket.
To me, which ever country you first play for in seniors applies till your full residency time in your new country of residence has elapsed, then you can change over. I'm sure the West Indies would love to have him in their team till 2022.

In saying that he is a top shelf weapon that the Poms will use, but like any bowler consistency over time will be his main aim. Remember both teams have fast bowling weapons and perhaps chin music may unfortunately take precedence over the way the captains think, fighting fire with fire. Hope not.
The series is well and truly alive with this next 3rd test match being crucial to who keeps or takes the ashes.
Again like most tests in sunny England 2 things will play a part, the toss and the weather.
Question is will the aussies make any changes to their batting lineup, the team lineup will be held back to near the toss.

Spoke to the family in Leeds and the weather is set fair for a 5 day test. Cant see it lasting 5 days though. I reckon we will level the series with Woakes taking a liking to the Headingley strip.
