^ And the 'best' team in the EPL doesn't necessarily win the FA Cup either.

This is the World Series after all.

More like a "News of the world" series

At least by Trump turning up and getting "lock him up" chants from all corners of the ground the rest of the World found out there was a baseball match going on

Enjoy the Series, and put your politics on the backburner or the English soccer and rugby and cricket threads should also become political platforms for the disgruntled. It was a very interesting and controversial game Great stuff Nationals and Colt 45s (Astros).

Not sure where the controversy was, Uncle.

Guy runs inside the line, interferes with the 1st baseman, and is - correctly - called out. =D>

I am hoping Scherzer can dominate tomorrow, and bring the bacon to Washington. Can't imagine a greater pleasure than seeing the arrogant smiles wiped off the faces of the Houston team.

Well I lie ............. I can imagine a greater pleasure, but you are right to want to keep politics off the thread. :D

ps statto comes up with the same ill-informed crap every year at World Series time. Best ignored. =;

The controversy ensued because normally the batter gets that lane so long as he diverts to the first base bag on arrival, which is the reason why this decision is rarely called (The runner did this as seen in the replay). Many first baseman catch with their left hand so it is easier for the catcher to throw the ball to him. The umpires called the runner out out because he knocked the glove off the first baseman's hand as the ball arrived, which is interference. Most people watching were confused owing to the fact it is such a rare call. In all my years of watching baseball, it is the first time I can remember seeing this.

Verlander is my favourite pitcher, and I really like Cole, Altuve and Springer for the Astros. But their ownership sucks and the fact that they took their closer, a wife-beater, from the Toronto club is despicable.

I like Scherzer too and hope he is lights out tomorrow. I liked it better when both he and Verlander pitched for the Detroit Tigers. A Washington victory would be sweet but the Houston club is tough. Houston was a heavy favourite to win and now,,,it's anyone's call.

Nationals stun the Astros 2- 6 late in Game 7 for their first WS.

Awesome, record-setting on-the-road performances from both teams but I guess the Astros blinked first.

Strasburg is the MVP... no arguments there.

It was a most interesting World Series with its share of surprises, controversy, great plays and stellar pitching. And, there were failures too such as Verlander's inability to get over the hump and win a game when it counts the most.

As for the MVP, I am not so sure. It is not like he won three games as Burdette, Gibson and Lolich did in the past. I would have voted for the whole Washington organisation or a hitter like Soto or Kendrick, but Strasburg is a worthy winner too.

L.S.U. outlasted Alabama in a wild one last Saturday. Both teams need to tighten their defences or they will not go far in the hampionship round. A Georgia win over L.S.U. in the SEC championship would put the 'Dawgs into the playoff round...and you never know what could happen.

I was impressed with Minnesota last year in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit. They easily manhandled the Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech, and have continued their winning ways with a victory over **** (Penn) State. The Golden Gophers remain undefeated.

The big games on this frigid Saturday (-17 wind chill in Toronto) are:

L.S.U. Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels
Georgia Bulldogs vs. Auburn Tigers (Auburn has a tough schedule)
Florida Gators vs. Missouri Tigers (Florida is up 6-3 at the half)
Incarnate Word Cardinals vs. New Mexico State Aggies (go you Papists!)

The almighty Patriots stuttering season finally bit the bullet in the playoffs with a 20 - 13 loss to the Titans in Foxborough.

The post-game interview of coach Belichick was like a frickin' wake!

Is Tom Brady dead?

Oh no... wait, he's getting the post-game media vivisection now.

Buh-bye...

In the earlier Wild Card came, the Texans overturned the Bills 16 point lead in the 3rd quarter and beat them 22 - 19 in OT at NRG Stadium. They get to take on the Chiefs instead of the Ravens next... thanks Patriots!

Yes, the Patriots record was somewhat misleading. 3 of the 12 wins were against teams with winning records, and two of those were against the Bills. Three of their four losses were against teams with winning records, well now five.
