Post by Declan MacPherson » July 9, 2020, 12:11 pm

Can anyone share their online experience as to the best platforms using a VPN? Thanks.

You don't specify free, or pay-to-watch.

For the former, I find the most consistent for AFL is http://livetv.sx/enx/competitions/483/ , although it can be a bit hit-and-miss eg I watched one Eagles game with commentary in Russian.

Haven't looked at their NRL streams, as it doesn't interest me. Doesn't need a VPN.

If you are happy to pay, and use a VPN, Kayo would seem to be the way to go https://kayosports.com.au/

I haven't used it, so no comment on reliability. There is a 14 day free trial where you could test that out.

I had a bumper sticker in Texas that read 'Beam me up Scotty'. I often wish I could find one in Udon Thani

Thanks to all who responded.

I already have a VPN to access restricted content.

Just downloaded (Android tablet) and had a quick look at Live NetTV as suggested by Whistler - it seems to be the dogs bollox for both AFL and NRL.

https://www.livenettv.sc/

Free, other than for the bloody ads.

Thanks Whistles. 👍

For those of you who need an alternative or don't use android - www.hesgoal.com provide good EPL coverage as well as other sports.

I need to revise my advice above for livenettv.

When I looked at it yesterday, the Foxtel AFL channel (504) was fine, but when I tried to look at a live game tonight the screen came up with a message saying go to Kayo.

Refer to my earlier post about the Kayo option.

I’ve used LiveNet for years and never had an issue, maybe check your line speed? But I guess they might have had an problem, no free service is 100%. Another back up app is Mobdro, the ads can be a bit annoying when you switch between channels buy it’s okay.

For those of you with True contract, about 8 months ago they were doing a special where you got a true ID Box for 50 baht a month, you get the box and all of the Thai Channels (crystal clear) and they also show some EPL games, might be worth checking if they’re still offering it?

Line speed is not the problem - I have 500/500 fibre, and it runs the other (available) channels quite smoothly.

The issue seems to be the tie-up between Foxtel and Kayo, with Kayo being a newish subscription based service for showing just the games ie you can watch everything else on Foxtel 504, but at game time, you must have Kayo to watch live. I looked again later last night, and they were showing a delayed broadcast of the game in question.

True Visions (cable/fibre only) also shows the AFL (but not all games) on channel 792. I have this, but unfortunately there have been precious few of the games from the Perth based teams shown to date. Both are on today, however.

I watch the AFL through:

https://www.watchafl.com.au/

I pay. I usually only watch the last half of the season. One reason is NZ is in a crappy time zone for watching live sport from Australia.

Just downloaded the livenetty app. a few nonsense ads on start up, tuned to Fox Footy (504) now watching the start of the Freo - St K game. GOOD thus far without interuption.

I wish you hadn't told me that, Dero - turned in on to see Freo at their normal bloody awful self.

On the bigger issue however, about what games are being shown on 504 - perhaps the "blockbusters" eg Thurs and Friday night games are exclusively on Kayo, and the also ran games eg Freo etc are all live on 504.

I guess only time and experimentation will tell.

Amendment to my previous post - the Freo game is not being shown on True (Oz+), but the Eagles game is.

For those who are able to watch the games, an interesting analysis here of how hard AFL is to present on TV (compared to say eg, soccer, rugby, gridiron, netball), and how the production hasn't really changed in the last 40 - 50 years, even though the game is played completely differently.

ps the Shockers have lifted their game since my previous post. =D>

Say ya sorry at em! They stole it.

No ads while the game was in play, just the usual Fox telecast = OK by me.

PS, then straight to the Eagles - Crows game without a break! =D>
