3rd test starts tomorrow.

I wasn't aware until I heard on the radio this morning that it was a day/night test with a pink ball.

Dew has been an issue from memories of previous night games on the sub-continent so, hopefully, the Indian spinners wont be able to get a decent grip on the ball. Regardless, the game will probably be decided (like the last 2 tests) at the toss. Hopefully Joe's carrying his double headed coin.

samster, I don’t think he needs a double headed coin, but agree, winning the toss no matter where, is an advantage.
At least the England selectors have put Anderson back in. Bowler rotation may keep him playing longer but will not help winning tests.
The rotation of fast bowlers, IMO, was a disaster years back for Australia. As much as it pains me to praise the poms, Anderson is a great bowler.
It is now obvious these days if Joe Root fails, then so do England, so a couple of the other top order batsmen must stand up when at the crease.
This stadium has been rebuilt and can seat 110,000 fans. Apparently sold out???
India must be Covid free now.
Can’t imagine the ablution blocks at the back of the stands after the luncheon curry interval.

It cant be worse than wading through the p*** at Headingley after a day on the beer. No luncheon interval btw as it's a day/night game :D

Not a good first session with 4 wickets down for England. Only 1 front line spinner picked which is interesting given the ball is turning,

Whoops, 5th wicket just gone!!

3 balls into Englands second innings and they are Zilch/Nowt/B*gger all for TWO wickets.

When do they get to play proper cricket? ..... anyone for a "beer match"

A first
2 day, 1 night game

The Indians didn’t even bother using their pace attack.
There will certainly be more conversation about setting up pitches for the home team.

Stats wrap: Root's high, England's low in record loss

Take a look at all the numbers from an extraordinary third Test between India and England in Ahmedabad

842 – The number of balls bowled in the third Test – 138.4 overs - making it the seventh-shortest completed Test match ever and the shortest since 1935. In the first Test of the series in Chennai, England's first innings alone lasted 190.1 overs.

387 – The number of runs scored in the match, the lowest in a Test since 1946 and the 10th lowest in history. It's also the lowest ever in a Test in Asia, beating the previous low of 422 in Australia's win over Pakistan in Sharjah in 2002.

0 – The number of balls bowled by pace bowlers in the third and fourth innings of the match. The only other time this has happened in a completed match was the Bangladesh v West Indies Test in Dhaka in 2018.

0 – The number of wickets taken in the match by Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad, the first time in 120 Tests together that they've gone wicketless.

81 – The number of runs England scored in their second innings, the second lowest completed Test innings ever against India. South Africa's score of 79 in 2015 is the lowest.

193 – The number of runs England scored in the match, their second-lowest match aggregate in a Test since 1904. They were bowled out for scores of 93 and 82 against New Zealand in Christchurch in 1984.

400 – The number of Test wickets taken by India's Ravichandran Ashwin in just 77 matches. Only Sri Lanka's Mutthiah Muralidaran has reached the milestone faster (72 Tests).

8 – The number of runs Joe Root conceded in taking five wickets in India's first innings, the cheapest five-wicket haul by a spin bowler in Test history, beating Tim May's 5-9 against the West Indies in 1993. Ten seam bowlers have taken a five-wicket haul and conceded eight runs or less, including Australia's Josh Hazlewood (5-8) against India in Adelaide last December. Australia's Ernie Toshack – who took 5-2 against India in 1947 – holds the all-time record.

38 – The number of years since an England captain took a five-wicket haul in a Test match. Bob Willis took five wickets when skipper against New Zealand in 1983.

70 – The number of runs Axar Patel conceded in taking 11 wickets in the match, the cheapest 10-wicket haul by an Indian bowler. The cheapest 10-wicket haul for all bowlers is Bert Ironmonger's 11-24 against South Africa in 1932.

2 – The number of days needed for a result, the 22nd instance of a two-day Test match. The last time England lost a Test inside two days was against Australia in Nottingham in 1921.

79.2 – The number of overs bowled by India in this Test, the second-fewest they've bowled to take 20 wickets in a match. The record is the 66.3 overs Afghanistan faced in their maiden Test in 2019.

11 – The number of times Ravichandran Ashwin has dismissed Ben Stokes in 11 Test matches. Nine of those dismissals have come in India.

All in all, the Aussies seem to be feeling a bit better now.

Just decent banter, that’s all.

I’ll assume you don’t follow cricket and just feel a need to post thinking we are “feeling better” only from what others post.
But we have just been done over twice very recently by our cousins the South Pacific Poms in the 5 game T20 series. We are 2-0 down.

^ Not at all Barney. Love the game as much as the next man. Recall cutting my teeth supporting and following Ellon Gordon CC when they upset the apple cart as losing finalists in the Haig National Village Championship. Then enjoying the first ever one-day tests at Edgbaston when I was at Aston uni studying for my M&B.

Apologies if my banter appeared contrived and good luck in turning it around in Wellington.

Here ya go Barney.

Australia beats New Zealand's Black Caps by 64 runs in third Twenty20 international in Wellington

Half-centuries from Glenn Maxwell and captain Aaron Finch, and a six-wicket haul to Ashton Agar, have helped Australia post a 64-run win over New Zealand in the third men's Twenty20 international at a crowd-less Wellington Regional Stadium.

We needed that win to keep it all alive. Finch and Maxwell finally back in form.

And the double head T20 first game prior to the big boys playing in Wellington the pommy sheilas defeated the kiwi chicks.
96 to 99.

I didn't watch the game, but would think that Agar's 6/30 would have been at least as instrumental in the win, if not more so, than the runs from Finch and Maxwell.

Runs on the board are very important, but so is being able to defend them.

Absolutely agree. My mistake. Those are his best figures. Also he has just come back from injury. He picked up another couple in the 4th game.
The series now comes down to the 4th game as a decider.

One would easily come to the conclusion that England have no hope in this test match.
But, root is still there.
5-65 and still 95 behind . Oh dear!!

Sorry quick edit
6 out. Roots gone , life boats at the ready now
