Cricket 2021
Re: Cricket 2021
They managed 62 runs and lost 4--1.
Different team for the Ashes series presumably (if it goes ahead) although I don't think the Aussies have played a Test Match since the India series in January?

Be interesting to see if the Aussies can recover to a 2 - 3 defeat against Bangladesh tonight
lowest Ozzie score ever

Re: Cricket 2021
India lost their last 8 wkts for 97 runs this morning to go from 267 - 2 to 364 all out
England 23 - 0 at tea day 2
Interesting Royal London 50 over game last night in Lancashire
Essex wanted about 80 (at 6 . 5 per over) with 7 wks left (cruising with Sir Alister Cook getting 110)
They then went completely off the rails and lost 3 wks in 5 balls, got tied down by 2 all rounder/spinners and ended up needing 21 from the last 6 balls with 2 wkts left and Simon Harmer at the non strikers end and a kid (Plom) on strike.
First ball was a dot followed by a single, giving Harmer the strike but needing 21 from 4 balls from a bowler who had not conceded a boundary in his previous 7 overs. Simon does like a challenge and the last 4 balls went for 6 6 6 2 leaving the game tied with one point each which meant Essex moved on to take on Yorks on Saturday and Lancashire were eliminated. If Harmer had got 6 6 6 1 instead of 2 Lancs would have qualified instead of Glocs

Must be nice to Joe in your side. He’s on a hot trot.
I never thought of him as a great batsman but I’ve had to eat my words and elevate him to a very high level. He’s been holding to Pom batting together for a long time.

Just wish he'd learn how to win the toss AND make the right decision ....
India 56 - 3 lunch day 4 (lead of 29), the 3 guys who made 254 out of the total (364) in the first Innings are all back in the shack
Essex completed the 48 hour Roses double by dumping Yorkshire out of the Royal London by 129 runs without seeming to break sweat (perhaps the Duke of York has given them lessons )

Should be an interesting last day at Lords but have a horrible feeling we're in for a batting collapse.
The Royal London is a bit of a joke Stats. Virtually all the first teams are on Test or Hundred duty

Re: Cricket 2021
Prescient words but, being fair to our shambolic batting lineup, India's bowling performance was unbelievable. As good as I've seen in over 40 years watching Test Cricket.

Re: Cricket 2021
How good was it to see the karma bus run over Jos Butler and Jimmy Anderson. Front running bucket mouths when they had the Indians under the pump earlier in the day but folded like a deck of cards when a bit of pressure was applied after tea. At least Jimmy's got the wickets on the board and can back up his chat. Butler's a dud with the bat and gloves and copped his right wack with a lovely send off by the Indians. It's a great game to watch when a bit of hatred comes to the fore. A good time had by all.

Re: Cricket 2021
Poms a bit quiet Jack. Must be on the soccer threads I wonder what happened to Bristol Benny Stokes? Would have thought he was still good enough to get a game with that rabble.

Re: Cricket 2021
Benny is mentally stressed and taking a break. He'll be back in time for the Ashes, hopefully with Archer
England have recalled David Malan for the final test v India. Once Ben's back, we'll be playing a lot of one day specialists in the Ashes. Expect a few 3 day tests.

Re: Cricket 2021
Two very ordinary sides in the ashes Samster, but not sure about the three day tests. Kookaburras don't swing since the sandpaper disappeared. If Hazlewood, Stark and Cummings couldn't take 20 Indian wickets with only half their side here last summer can't see either the Poms or us taking 20 wickets too often this summer. Archer will be ordinary with a Kookaburra in Australian conditions. Don't think he's got the tank, or the desire to compete and work on tracks that don't favour bowlers, like they do in England. Hope Bristol Benny gets over the sads because he is worth watching.samster wrote: ↑August 19, 2021, 2:06 pmBenny is mentally stressed and taking a break. Australia will win Brisbane - as we do. Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney will be draws and Perth will be an Aussie win as it will be 45+++ celcius in mid January and the Poms will either melt or get lost in the cracks in the wicket. I wonder who thought it would be a good idea to play a test match in Perth in mid January?
Jack - Perth mid January What were they thinking ?

Drop in pitches at Optus Stadium, lew. Not sure they will have the same degree of "cracking" as at the WACA.
If they do, perhaps Australia should open the bowling with DK from one end, and Mitch from the other.
Scared rabbits anyone?

Did the Poms have a bit of biffo with the Indians in the Long Room?
The English anger management problem doesn't seem to be on the mend.

Jimmy Anderson currently 6 overs 3 Maidens 3 wkts for 6 runs ......... great quote on cricino website
"As Graham Gooch famously said, it's like facing the World XI from one end, and Ilford 2s from the other…" -- Even without Broad, Woakes, Stokes etc, Anderson still probably has better bowling support than Sir Richard Hadlee did, though!
