Europa League semi finals second legs last night
Arsenal 0 Villarreal 0 (aggregate 1-2)
Roma 3 Manchester United 2 (aggregate 5-8)
So it's United v Villarreal in the final in Gdansk on 26th May.
United led 1-0 at half time and 7-2 overall but both full backs were substituted at the break, leading to defensive chaos in the second half. de Gea had to make some excellent saves or the aggregate score would have been closer.
Fortunately Cavani continued his good form with 2 goals, the first being a beauty.
Arsenal went out with a whimper, although Aubameyang hit the post twice. But Villarreal were largely untroubled and Arsenal now face the prospect of no European football for the first time in 25 years next season.
The Gunners have been in a slow decline for the last 10 years and it will be difficult to get back to their former glory.

Re: UEFA Champions League 2020/21 knockout stages
^ Cavani's an absolute beast eh? Sort of OGS's lucky Uruguayan rabbit's foot. Was the half-time defensive swap just to rest Wan-Bissaka and Shaw? Maybe he should have waited until they were actually tired?
Is there a stat tracking which player hits the woodwork the most? The Gunners need to do something really, really radical... like maybe join a European Super League. That way they can hit as many goalposts as they like and never, ever get relegated (or win much).

Re: UEFA Champions League 2020/21 knockout stages
Having watched the Manu U v Roma highlights its a good job De Gea was in such excellent form and that lady luck smiled on United several times as Roma had chance after chance .... shame about Arsenal but they have been going down hill since / even before Wenger retired, both them and Spurs being included in the recent Super League twaddle as the BIG 6 really was a joke ....wasnt it ??.Zidane wrote: ↑May 7, 2021, 9:08 amEuropa League semi finals second legs last night

Nice to see Manu win the final.. alas sad to say im going for a Villereal victory
Possibility of the CL final being played on UK soil not instanbul .. makes sense tho Scunnys Galndford park (i refuse to call it the Sands venue stadium) has been ruled out as directly after the final whistle tomorrow they are planting potatoes there upon .. in fact ticket sales for watching the spuds grow have been more brisk then for next seasons footy.

Played 27 goalless games for his country including one World Cup where he collected a yellow card.
Is he cadging for Rooney's job or does he just think Gerrard is overrated?

Quite a few options in the EPL with managerless clubs and those with managers on thin ice .. Gerrard may suit Wolves ??? Newcastle ?? Spurs ?? ... but we all know he will one day manage Liverpool ... for now any English club would be a move up from Rangers .. even Scunny.

There's a rumour Mauricio Pochettino could be coming back to the Spuds.....Ronaldo back to Man Utd, maybe ?
Wolves are reportedly after ex Benfica boss, Lage as their new manager.
OGS will be safe even if United lose.....

Europa League Final
Villarreal 1 Manchester United 1
(Villarreal won 11-10 on penalties)
Very disappointing. The only real excitement was the penalty shootout which came down to the two goalkeepers after all the outfield players had scored.
Sadly David de Gea missed his penalty but no blame should be attached to him. Players like Lindelhof, Pogba and Rashford, in particular, gave very poor performances.... OGS delayed his substitutions too long and United were weary in extra time.
Anyway, on to the UEFA Champions League Final on Saturday and I,m quietly confident we will have an English winner.
