Wimbildin 2021
Wimbildin 2021
Andy Murray's out but did not bad for an old geezer with a titanium hip who hasn't played competitively for the best part of two years.
Meanwhile, the new British darling is 18 year-old Emma Raducanu who's aiming to go beyond the final 16 later today.
. .
Sorry, I couldn't find a picture of our Andy.

Re: Wimbildin 2021
I see that Emma is only in the tournament due to a late wildcard. This is her first major tournament having only done her A-Levels a while ago.
Good luck to her.
Good luck to her.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.
Re: Wimbildin 2021
I reckon shes going to go a long way if not in tennis, in the media. She gave an articulate interview afterwards and her positive attitude and general joie de vivre on court is heartwarming. Apart from that she probably qualifies on looks to be the third Mrs Samster.

Born in Toronto, Canada to a Romanian father and a Chinese mother, currently ranked No. 338. Hail Britannia!

If she fancied doing an updated Tennis Girl Scratching Bum poster I’d certainly buy one for my bedroom wall

Playing against an Aussie born in Croatia
She may or may not be good at tennis but the "I didn't pack enough clothes" takes some believing
NO WOMAN even an eighteen year old one has EVER gone somewhere and NOT PACKED ENOUGH CLOTHES
ssheeesh they will even pack an extra evening dress in case their first choice clashes with the decor in the hotel restaurant
Re: Wimbildin 2021
...and she's out. Looked like a panic attack to me and John McEnroe. Even though he stated his non-medical opinion in more acceptable terms, he's getting pilloried by a certain demographic that likes to play the misogyny card whenever a man's thoughts or comments upsets them. This includes pretty much anything a man thinks or says.
Just goes to show that just like anyone else, even the most assured and confident teenager's can hit undiscovered buffers when facing pretty daunting pressures wrought of over-hyped expectation.

Could be worse, no? She could be a loud American claiming Sioux, Irish and Italian blood.

Or worse still claiming to be a Scot but BRITISH when it suited him
Thinking back
Over the years has ANYONE represented the country of their birth at Wimbledon

Evonne Goolagong Cawley
Re: Wimbildin 2021
Wasn't that the case before Murray finally won Wimbildin? In the media he was "Scotland's Andy Murray" when he missed out but was embraced as "British tennis star Andy Murray bla bla bla... Fred Perry bla bla bla" after he won at SW19.stattointhailand wrote: ↑July 6, 2021, 1:38 pmOr worse still claiming to be a Scot but BRITISH when it suited him

Re: Wimbildin 2021
Wimbledon's not about nations. That's the Olympics' forte. The nationality tag at Wimbledon is something the media needs to attach to names so they don't get themselves confused. Everyone else knows where Roger Federer comes from (by now) but the players from the Slavic regions all sound the same, especially the wimin when they serve.stattointhailand wrote: ↑July 6, 2021, 1:38 pmOr worse still claiming to be a Scot but BRITISH when it suited him

Well done to Ash Barty for the win.
Long time since we Aussies have had a woman hold the trophy in the air.

She is the darling of the British people.
The British people who speak English.
The English which isn't your first language.
Obviously.
Re: Wimbildin 2021
See you got the message regardless on my English. It served its purpose

Must be why there's been no "Vinny Jones" or "Uncle Bulgaria" comments Google has no idea what to look for
Re: Wimbildin 2021
Is this really important? I mean it's not as if someone will confuse it with WEMBILEE.newtovillagelife wrote: ↑July 11, 2021, 2:00 pmWhat is obvious is that whomever started this thread can't spell WIMBLEDON.
