2021 Tokyo Olympics

Post by jackspratt » July 25, 2021, 8:15 pm

Time for a new thread, methinks.

Thailand currently sits amongst a handful of gold medallist countries, after Ms Panipak Wongpattanakit earned the gong in the 49kg Taekwondo competition.

Well done her. =D>

The world number one golfer, Jon Rahm, has withdrawn from Tokyo 2020 after a positive COVID-19 test.
That's too bad. Sorry for your bad luck Jon. "The positive results came when undergoing his third PCR test, which is mandatory for everyone who has been to the United Kingdom... The first two PCR tests were negative." the Spanish Olympic Committee and Spanish Golf Federation said.

"But ... WAIT," I hear you say. Is this déjà vu, or what?

You are not dreaming. Rahm tested positive for COVID-19 in June at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, and was forced to withdrawal with a six-stroke lead through three rounds.

Rahm has had his full course of vaccinations. And still got the Wuhan Flu -- twice -- within 31 days. Shoulda worn two masks, Jon. Maybe three.

DM been watching the boxing and Taekwando in which Thailand have had some success ... but so far most entertaining has to be the womens football tournament ..some cracking games and heaps of goals in high scoring close fixtures and a shock or two already...best so far China 4 Zambia 4 in a game that could of easily been a 12 all draw going by the goal mouth action and attempts.

To follow on
Indeed Jack well done to the Thai lass for getting the gold .. it was the highlight story on all the TV channels last night going from her school years to present day shows what can be achieved , both her and the father have been very dedicated with some success in the past and the hard work etc has culminated in this Olympic gold .. already its clear celebrity stardom will ensue with her dad and sister on TV last night Tennis arrives back in Thailand via the Phuket sandbox route .. where a cool 17 mil bonus in prize money and endorsements is waiting.

Ditto Jack ... WELL DONE mak mak.

Real shame covid has downgraded the whole event without fans

For those looking for alternative ways to follow the Olympics, this is the best I have come up with yet:

Other suggestions welcomed.

Muzzy judokas quit rather than face a Jew

A second judo athlete has dropped out of the Olympics before facing Israel’s Tohar Butbul in the 73-kilogram division.

Olympic officials say Sudan’s Mohamed Abdalrasool didn’t show up to face Butbul in their round of 32 bout Monday despite weighing in for the bout earlier.

The International Judo Foundation didn’t immediately announce a reason why Abdalrasool didn’t compete, and the governing body didn’t respond to requests for comment. Sudanese Olympic officials also didn’t immediately comment.

Algeria’s Fethi Nourine was sent home from the Tokyo Games and suspended by the IJF on Saturday after he withdrew to avoid a potential round of 32 matchup with Butbul.

Nourine was supposed to face Abdalrasool for the right to meet Butbul.

Abdalrasool is the world’s 469th-ranked judoka in his weight class, while the accomplished Butbul is seventh.

Nourine also quit the World Judo Championships in 2019 right before he was scheduled to face Butbul.

The Dominican Republic’s Euri Cedeno Martinez didn’t need much time to get through Eldric Sella Rodriguez, of the Refugee Olympic Team, in their boxing matchup Monday at the Tokyo Olympics.
Wait. What? The Refugee Olympic Team? Now we have trannies competing against women, Swede kickball wimmin being forced to kneel against imaginary oppressors, and now a team made up of refugees.

It's become a carnival sideshow.

Aww... so the notion of stateless, flagless sportsmen and women self-representing and being allowed to compete jars with your rather fragile sensibilities?

Calm down Ashli.

Yes, calm down Giggle. Gaming will soon be in the Olympics. That should bring in heaps of competitors with values similar to your values.

IMO the whole Summer and Winter Olympic events have lost their aura ... with more sports being added over the years some of which clearly should not be has turned it into a bit of a woke political pushing circus... as usual the original athletics based tournament format was the best ... pressure to add more obscure sports was probably down to money but the line was crossed introducing skateboarding which is at best a pass time or game ISNT IT ??

Twice in a week im agreeing with Giggle  ...its seems the snowflakery is getting in everywhere from taking knees to a stateless group ..absolutely no need to have a refugee team , how and where did they qualify ? nowadays what consititues being a refugee , migrant etc seems to vary greatly from nation to nation ... also what anthem would they play if was to win a gold /... Spandau Ballet perhaps ??

Sports come. Sports go.
The following sports are no longer part of the Olympics: solo synchronized swimming, tug of war, rope climbing, hot air ballooning, tandem bicycle, swimming obstacle race, plunge for distance, underwater swimming race and live pigeon shooting. Also croquet, cricket and motorboating.

Break dancing will make its first olympic appearance in Paris in 2024. B Boys and B Girls going for gold. It's a beautiful thing. \:D/
