MLB 2023 Rangers Win it All

Post by jackspratt » May 5, 2023, 10:08 am

Major League Baseball has now been underway for just over a month - with 32 games of a 162 game season completed.

The major takeaways at this early stage:

- the success of the new rules, particularly the pitch clock and pitcher restrictions

- the dominance of the Rays

- the dominance of the Red Sox over the Toronto Canucks over the past 4 days, with more wins already than for the 19 games they played against each other last season

- the dominance of the AL East division, with all 5 teams over .500 in wins

Hope that helps.

Yes, if Boston wants to do well in the division this season, they will have to reverse their record vs. the Canucks over the past few years. Pittsburgh and Baltimore are nice stories so far.

And if all the games were played on the Isle of Dogs.

Back in the day when there were 8 teams in both the National and American Leagues you played a 154 game schedule all within your own league. Thus the Chicago White Sox would play the Boston Red Sox 22 times a season.

The only derbies in those days happened in the National League when the New York Giants played the Brooklyn Dodgers. Well, the New York Yankees did play the New York Giants in the World Series, and in the late 40s and '50s the Yankees played Brooklyn fairly frequently.

It's seems like the season only started yesterday, and we're already over a third of the way through. Baltimore is the biggest surprise, I think, so far. Most people thought Tampa Bay would be good, but not this good. The Red Sox surprise in that they have a winning record as do the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kansas City and Oakland are the dregs of baseball. Let's see what the standings are at the All-Star break. Where is Toronto's own Joey Votto? Adam Wainwright has to pick it up for a memorable last season as does the whole Cardinal squad.

This campaign the Boston Red Sox have nine victories and zero defeats against the Toronto Blue Jays. You gotta think Toronto wishes the Red Sox, and not the Braves, had moved to Milwaukee and then to Atlanta.

I'm surprised you missed this milestone of your favourite pitcher, Uncle. Mind you, he is almost as old as you, and me.

This is a great achievement; however, his E.R.A. of over 7 leaves me open to ridicule from the likes of Doodoo. After all, he is famous for watching me like a hawk.

That might be Uncle Charlie's last game as a Cardinal, and, if so, it is a fitting end to a splendid baseball career.

This will leave me Justin Verlander of the Houston former cheating Astros to monitor. I still remember him no-hitting the Blue Jays in Toronto when he pitched for the Detroit Tigers. I'm hoping Verlander has enough gas left in the tank for a few more seasons.

Thanks for the link for the story and videos on Wainwright. He is impressive when he's on. He was on last year in Toronto when he baffled the Blue Jay hitters, 7-1. Pujols homered. It is probably the last game I'll see in person.

Two unlikely teams, the Texas Rangers (90 wins, 72 losses) and the Arizona Diamondbacks, will be playing in the World Series this year. Top winning teams: the Baltimore Orioles (101 wins, 61 losses), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (99 wins, 63 losses), Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers are out as are the Houston former cheating Astros.

Something is wrong when the top teams can't get make it to the finals. Although I detest the Los Angeles Dodgers (100 wins, 62 losses. I liked them when they played in Brooklyn), they and Atlanta (104 wins, 58 losses) are much more deserving than Arizona (84 wins, 78 losses) to be in the World Series.
