A good barber shop
A good barber shop
I was down in Pattaya and my usual hairdresser is hospitalised so I need a decent shearing before I head for Vegas this Sunday.
Any recommended barber shops or hairdressers in Udon? Nothing extravagant wanted, just a decent short back and sides will do. I heard of one on 'Soi jet' (?) but don't know where that is.
Thanks!

On Soi Sampan, just down from the Top Mansion (on same side of road) going down the street away from Top Mansion & Day & Night is a hairdresser/motorbike shop. Nearly opposite PLAs Bar (but that name might have changed now as new owner) Good haircut, reasonable price (about 100 baht from memory) & a decent lady, but not much English.

I go to a place called an individual. It is on Tikkatanon Road (same road as Charoensri complex) opposite side and just down a bit from 7-11/bus station heading for Phosri Road. Khatoey there does a good job on my mop for 60 Baht.

Next door to the Karin Hotel. A profesional barbers outfit. When they stand out the on street (without their white coats) you could mistake them for a bunch of lawyers.
Re: A good barber shop
to quote I.A the minute I walk in to a barber shop the price go up so if your getting a hair cut for 60 bot
I want to go there because they will get 40 bot tip because I am use to paying 120 plus 40 bot tip only if they wash it two times before & after the cut and I have no problem with L/B cutting my hair

Re: A good barber shop
Here is where I went for a hair cut while in Udon. From the front of AEK head toward downtown. About 100 to 150 meters across the street is a barber shop. If I am not mistaken it is next to a bank. Last year he only charged 40 baht and I am not sure what he charges now but he never tried to rip me off even when I went in the first time. He speaks very little English if any but will go out of his way to please. Beings how he went out of his way to please, he always ended up with 100B. There is also a lady that will do your lady friends hair. Wife said she did Ok.

That's the shop I use when in town. I like the guy who tends to the chair down the bottom end, does it exactly as instructed without pissing around.Artfullmover wrote:Next door to the Karin Hotel. Sent from my 1977 Apple II using 2 Heinz bake bean cans and piano wire!
Re: A good barber shop
Yup, same shop and same guy, right at the end. Best haircut I have had in a long while. Someone who knows what a SHORT back and sides means.Bandung_Dero wrote:That's the shop I use when in town. Re: A good barber shop
I always went to the guys opposite Daweang Deng (forgot how to spell it again) until it was demolished along with everything else on that road. After a couple of not so good/overpriced haircuts around town, I finally tried the barbers shop on Jamnusorn Road (map ref N10), only to find my old barber working there. They have about 8 chairs/barbers, and a "standard" type haircut is B60.

Re: A good barber shop
My favorite tuk tuk driver showed me this place when I first came back to Udon. Been back several times since then. No favorite barber there but always seem to get a decent cut. I drive now and never seems to be a problem finding a parking place in that area.tamada wrote:Yup, same shop and same guy, right at the end. Best haircut I have had in a long while. SHORT back and sides.... We called those "high and tights" back when I was in the military.
Re: A good barber shop
who in their right mind goes to a barber?
i refuse to get my hair cut by a man
especially as there are so many cute girls cutting hair in thailand!!!
better for the married or attached guys as you have a legit reason to
speak to, be touched by another woman
and for singles a way to meet non bgs
no reason at all in my mind to let a man touch my head when a pretty girl can
who cares what the cut is like....

Re: A good barber shop
I use to go to the barbers next to the Karin Hotel until one day I was escorted to the last chair by a middle aged women who was, how shall we say, a little worse for wear due to drink.
She definitely took a shine to me. Gave me her phone number so that she could come to my home and cut my hair.
Never been back. Shame as I use to get a good haircut from another women in there.

Re: A good barber shop
Errrrrr... I do or at least did. Well actually I still do as it is a khatoey. Last time I had my hair cut by a girl I think she cut it with a knife and fork. I ended up looking like Joan of Arc. That was in Khon Kaen... Then I was told of a good barber so for the first time in my life I had to have my hair repaired.woody wrote:who in their right mind goes to a barber?

2 men can put their hands on my head... My khatoey barber or a doctor.

Re: A good barber shop
After days of the princess pleading with me to get my hair cut I relented today however my usual khatoey had a day off so went to this place. Opposite Boss photo studio and Mitsubishi right?banpaeng wrote:Here is where I went for a hair cut while in Udon. From the front of AEK head toward downtown. Spoke enough English and was very polite, "Sit down please, is the style okay for you?" Nice tidy up, shaved my neck and all for only 45 Baht. Recommended!
Re: A good barber shop
Funny, my hair was overdue for a cut and I was in Kumpawapi yesterday afternoon visiting a friend.
Heading home around 17h I stopped on the main road and asked where the nearest "ran tat phom" was, just a few doors further. It was the small dirty usual Thai shop.
Last time I had a hair cut at my usual luxury saloon near the Udon railway station, near the traffic light opposite the night market, they increased their price from 150B to 200B
I saw the man's prices on the wall from 25 to 40B, a kid just got out, I did not have to wait.
I think he made me this military style, very short (too short to my liking) in the neck, but luckily he left some hair on top of my head...I thanked him but he said something like "not finished". He went on to shave me (that did hurt a bit), massage neck and sholders, clean my face, oil, smear perfume and some more.
When asked how much? The man said 40B!!!
Paid him 50B but will not go back...

Re: A good barber shop
if they sleep with men I agree some how lady boys do great hair work I guess it all that pain they go through every morning trying to look like a stunning female which gives them the experience and patience to do good workbeer monkey wrote:Men do make better hair 'stylists'.
