Quick heads up anyone contemplating a road trip anytime soon ..

DM just back from Korat having traveled there safely n swiftly on Boxing day morning.

Here are a few observations in no specific order.

Tiz the season to be jolly and giving .... obviously not GIVING way on the roads, traffic heading North on the Mittrapab road is getting thick and thicker by the day , lots of the anual pick ups laden with motorbikes , fridges washing machine , fans with the family hanging on on top.. way more HGVs on the road and truck after truck carrying foam boxes im guessing full of food stocks for restaurants etc.

Saw quite a few vehicle off road incidents large trucks n delivery vans in the bushes and central reservation oh and a couple of fresh RTAs .. it seems people traveling home are in such a rush weaving dangerously from lane to lane and undertaking .. it was like Wacky Races between Korat n KK especially.

Good news ... all the road work lane restrictions and contraflows have been removed between UD-KK plain sailing .. many traffic light intersections are thru traffic only with U turns closed off as well in anticipation of the chaos to follow starting tomorrow till the NY...LOTS OF POLICE CHECK POINTS BEING SET UP

Khao Yai to Ud .. 4 hrs 45 mins .. alas you can probably double that plus a bit more in the coming days.

Heading South should be fine until next week

Can you remember the drivers in the Wacky Races ?????? Loved the show... some great characters , i could not recall all of them until i got the 1968 YT Vid

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uU6KzAbSTg

great memories .. i was 3 yrs old in 1968 in the prime of my cartoon watching years

Certainly seems like DM dodged a bullet traveling back yesterday as confirmed by bith the TV reports and friends in Khao Yai traffic now nose to tail.solid from.Bkk to isaan on the Mittrapab highway.

As info going South is also.conjested as some lanes given up.fir Nort bound traffic.

If you choose to travel...stay alert n eep safe

drink driving with "probation?" No apprehension, Blood Alcohol Test (BAT) and down to the hoosegow if over the limit to sit overnight, see the judge in the morning and pay a hefty fine along with points on their license? Then probation....

Pretty sure the DUI route below has been running for years its the new higher fines points and possible imprisonment that have been added to.stiffen up.the exsisting penalties.

Nabbed ..go.police station
AGO
Court
Fine plus probation - communtity service including blood donations option

One needs to be careful with that "blood letting" get-out-of-jail card. If you donate too much blood, you will get pished quicker and be nabbed again.

In no.way condoning drink driving but reading numerous articles re the drink driving figures for this year 22-23 seeing a 90.plus % increase in the same period last year and it made me think surely these two.numbers cannot be tied together as the NY 21 - 22 was during covid and interprovincial.ttravel was for the most part discouraged and cancelled by the government with thousands less ppl.travelling..thus giving a lower false making this years NY seem very bad statstically.

Watching the news seeing some crazy driving resulting in multiple pile ups .. Roi-et province takes the honours for the highest nember of duis .. followed by Nontaburi then Bkk.

The Courts rammed and probation offices are gonna be very busy also .. rehabilating all.the nabbed offenders.

I was on the M6 for a bit yesterday morning. Blackpool's quiet but it gets a bit more lively at the weekend.

With silly season fast approaching i thought i would share a bit of info for anyone who is planning to travel this month.

As we do every year the business is now closed and we dont travel at all over the SK holidays. This year as SK days fall the Government have extended the hols so expect nasty traffic for longer...in fact already this week it was busier and fully expect it to get worse this weekend and from Monday 8th when most Bkk based workers go back to their Isan villages.

AS INFO

A lengthy section of the new Motor way 6 is now open which takes you on the raised HW from Korat to Muak Lek / Saraburi .. the first entry point is just outside Korat on the Khon Kaen side and is well sign posted .. its worth noting there are no services /toilets on M6 and for the moment only 2 exits so depending where you are heading for example we stop at Sikhio its best to stay on the old Mitraphab HW which in fact is way better with many choosing the elevated M6 route to Saraburi / Bang Pa In and Bkk.

Not too many bad roadworks but did notice a huge construction site between Sikhio and Muak Lek which appears to be a new Bangkok Hospital.

The Mitraphab HW from Bang Pain to Korat is always busy but putting the crazy SK traffic aside the new M6 really does help the aging HW.
The very long HW 24 from Korat to Buriram Surin Sisaket and Ubon is getting wider and better though rough as the moons surface in some sections.
UD TO KK no issues both ways

All toll booths on the Bkk ring Rd M9 have been re jigged to include new lanes for both Easy pass and M pass members so make sure your in the cash lane... cameras do get you if going through the other lanes and the fine is 10 times the toll you have avoided...on the subject of fines ...
Just renewed the truck insurance and tax disc for the windscreen and can confirm the Police and vehicle reg department are now connected as when renewing i was presented with a 5oo bt fine for speeding in Roi-et from last June and had to pay this before they would issue my new tax disc.. as a footnote to this my insurance advised me not to pay any speeding fines that arrive via the post as not all will be sent to the LTD Office and best just to clear any that do when renewing the yearly tax ..very true as i have collected a few over the year but only 1 appears to have been sent to the LTD.

Hope that helps

Well spotted Phen , I forgot to mention the M6 speed limits being 80 as a minimum 120 as max .. and for now being so quiet traffic wise absolutely no reason to do less than 80 and cruising at 100-120 without any U turn death traps and delays does cut off a decent lump of time from an UD - BKK direct trip.

Also noticed very few if any HGV using the new M6 , tiz my experience as well as roadworks etc HGV and tour buses cause most of the traffic hold ups blocking all 3 lanes on the aging Mitraphab HW.

On the subject of travel ..DM not a fan of flying so if going to Bkk for a break not business i fancy trying the train method from UD ..has anyone used it recently ? if so how long does it take and what are the different seat classes and services on board ?
