Bugs,

To answer your question regarding oil changes, sure he will have all fluids in vehicle changed, if customer desires.

Somchai was Udon Mitsubishi's Service Manager for tens years, on his own for 7/8 years, I think.
He's a 4x4 specialist, was well. Welding, auto AC, bumpers, electrical, many after market accessories, including new car/truck trim accessories, etc, etc, etc...

Last year Somchai took his tricked out Stereo Pick Up to Bangkok for the annual Audio show and competition, won many of the big 6 foot trophies, many first place awards. Sound systems at their best, with Somchai.

Another thing about Somchai, he knows about everybody in town, if he doesn't do a particular kind of work, he picks up the phone and directs you to the right place, often driving you there himself.

Have I said enough, probably, super cool guy Somchai is...

Car window tinting: Good shop in Udon?

Post by marklv » May 28, 2012, 10:38 am

I'm looking for a good place to get my car windows tinted. I drove by the Ford dealership looking for Somchai's shop and couldn't find it. This thread is almost 4 years old, and maybe Somchai has moved since then. Can anyone recommend a good shop or else tell me how to find Somchai?

Thanks,

Mark

Place on the Adulyadet Road on the right almost immediately after the traffic lights with Wattananuwong Road - heading out of town towards Nong Sim.
Never used it personally but it is always busy with Thai owners getting Windows done..

If you're headed west on Phosri and come to a light with the new Shiseido Cosmetic store on the right, you can turn right to go to the bus station. BUT...turn left instead, and go to the last shop on the right before you come to the first (southernmost) circle. I have used them before for a few items and they do good work and give good prices. Have seen them doing a lot of tinting there also while I waited on my car to be finished. See the young lady manager and bargain with her. Really clean place with excellent fast service. The other shops on that row are all hustlers, so stay away.

Shop located on ring road, mid way between Tool Pro and Global House (about 100m from railway tracks), same side of the road. Very professional and good selection of shades to choose from. They also do car alarms and parking sensors.

Yea, great shop Papa! They came to my home and put tinting on my windows where the afternoon sun was baking us in the house. Problem solved and very inexpensive!

any idea what it would cost to get my current tinting (60/40) taken off and replaced with a less dark tint? When I bought my D-Max at the dealer the salesman told me 60% sides/40% front rear was standard tint. I've found it near impossible to see properly at night or in rainy weather..

Correct, and you are not alone. That's why I took 3M FX HP 20. It has 'only' 22%, which is fully ok. Still nice dark touch but not black. I have already been asked two times where to get that film as dealers tend to sell their cars with tinting included, but only the dark standard. If you want to have something different they don't know what and where...'can not do'...

I also refuse to have the front tinted, only got the upper strip there. Price varies a bit but not much, still between 3000 and 5000 baht, depending on the type of film and the number of windows/work time.

Thanks for the lead, papa. I just went to the shop located on ring road, mid way between Tool Pro and Global House. I had all windows tinted, including the windshield for 5000 Baht. I specifically asked for 3M, and did not inquire about the different prices for other manufacturers.

I don't recall the names or numbers of the actual shades I picked, but the windshield is more transparent than the sides and rear. I don't yet know whether this will cause a problem for me to see at night. At first, I didn't want to do the windshield, but they talked me out of it. If I hadn't done the windshield, then I would look for a folding reflector to manually insert when the car is parked. I've seen them a lot in the states, but don't recall seeing the same type of reflector used in Thailand. (On the other hand, I haven't looked for them. They might be common.)

The staff were very helpful and professional, and they seem to have done an excellent job. They also have a nice waiting room and were willing to drive me home and pick me up when the job was done. I would recommend this place.

I also had them put in a keylock transmitter and alarm, separately from the 5000 price.

For me, their prices were firm, and I couldn't talk them down.

From what I understand about the law re film,it is 40% on windscreen and 60% on sides and rear so seems they have done the correct % for you :D ,you do see some cars that use much higher % to try to look cool and important albeit damgerous but they have to remember that the BIB could easily look for an easy money stop from them. 8)

After having read this thread, I decided to make UD Auto Glass on the Mithrapap ring road my first call for a price enquiry. The place looked professional and when the sales lady told me they were having a promotion, I decided not to go shopping any further for a lower price because B4500 (instead of B5500), for both 3M and Lamina, looked like a good deal.
They gave me a lift home in the company car and picked me up again 2 hours later when my car was ready. Good and pleasant service at an attractive price. \:D/

ditto.. had my D-MAX 4 door redone a couple of months ago by the same place.. Excellent work and also got the drop-off and pickup in a nice van.. The did my truck with 3M.. I had to strip out my older tint as it was too bloody dark to see out of the truck safely at night or during dark rainy days...

BTW, they also do window/windshield repair and replacement.. Had my Stateside spec Ford Ranger windshield replaced there about 9 years ago.. They found a similar sized windshield and managed to trim and fit it properly...

An update on UD Autoglass - phone number is 042 204115/6 (the website is not working).

Had my Honda City tinted today - 3M film all around, 50% on windows and rear window, 40% on the windscreen.

As everyone has said earlier, very professional, with a welcoming air-conditioned lounge to sit in while waiting - alternatively, they will drop you in town, and pick you up when the job is finished.

Total cost was 5000 baht.

I guess that those of you who tint the windscreen don't do much night driving? It cuts the visibility by 40-60% and is deemed so dangerous that it is totally banned in UK.

On the other hand, here in Thailand it probably means that you don't see what hits you!!!!
