driving from Udon to Chiang Mai

Hi Guys,

In the month may I want to drive from Udon to Chiang Mai and want to do a easy trip with 2 childeren (3 and 7 years) and a old lady. We want to stay for 3 nights in CM. Thinking about rent a car by the company lekcarrentaludonthani.com for 22 days.

I think about the following:

UD > Nong Bua (HW228) > Chum Phae > Lom Sak (HW12) night in Lom Sak
Lom Sak (HW12) > Uttaradit (HW11) > Lampang night in Lampang
Lampang > CM

In Chiang Mai I think we sleep at the Tapae Place Hotel (a hotel with balcony so I can smoke outside, parking and close to the night bazaar for 1000 bath for a deluxe room.

CM > Phayao (HW118, 120) > eat in Phayao next to the lake
and then I don't now I do not like the same way back but must think about the childeren

Somebody have nice ideas about hotels/restaurants for the trip and what is the nicest trip to make (also think about the childeren)?

Somebody also nows a good hotel for 14 days to stay in UD, we have one I forget the name but it is only for 300 baht 100 meters from Tesco Lotus many local Thai (bussiness) stay there.
