Gday Barry.

I see your from Melbourne, so as a suggestion, before you leave Oz, book a direct flight BKK to Siam Reap (Cambodia), Angkor Wat is just outside SR. We entered Cambodia via the Immigration checkpoint at Osmach just below Surin and hired 2 taxis for the 2.5 hr journey to SR. Bus travel from BKK to SR maybe a bit tortuous and many hours.

SR has many good restaurants and the draught beer is quite ok and about 70 cents Oz for a schooner in happy hours. They like USD and their own currency, Thai Bhat is ok in most places. ATMs dispense USD or a bank can supply you with USD from your debit card over the counter.
