Heads up for the UTP to UTH flights - seems they are changing the flight time from the morning to 15.30 in the afternoon from 1st October.

I live in Loei province and used to fly to Utapao until they cancelled the afternoon flight. Getting up at 5:00 AM to catch the morning flight was a pain. It takes two and a half hours to get from my home to the Udon airport.

Just checked for a booking , correct afternoon flights down & up , that early flight UTP =UTH was hard work , wasted night out in Patt's ,having to be up early to catch the flight , yes you could argue carry on partying until it's time to go to Airport , I'm toooo owd fer that these days ,Good news this for me , :lol: :lol:

Since they cancelled the afternoon flight, I have a new tactic. This old man is no longer up for a nine hour drive. I now drive halfways get a room, a good meal, a few beers and a good nights sleep. I can still handle five hour drives. No need to get up early in the morning to be able to drive in the daylight.

If Loei ever gets a direct flight to Utapao, I'll change tactics again.

They cannot please everyone and I am one of those that dislike the new times. Flying Udon to Pattaya on the 9am flight was great for us, now its a pain in the ass.

Arising about 6am in Udon then to the airport and arrive Pattaya around 10-10am, then private mini van to Koh Chang and arriving at the beach resort around 3pm (ferries close around 8pm). Now it looks like staying somewhere for one night then to the island the next morning. So its great if your staying around Pattaya, but for us, its just bad rotten luck. Oh well, maybe just have to look for another island.

Not sure of your requirements Sport, but can recommend Chao Lao Beach Chantaburi for either an overnight or a few days. Reasonable choice of accom (even on the main travel sites) Not too far from Patters or Koh Chang depending on which direction you are going If you want to drive down then its straight down through K Yai.

Seems like half the posters above are misinterpreting the comment by the OP. He's talking about the flight from Pattaya to Udon being changed from the present 7:30 AM to 15:30 in the afternoon. There is no mention of a time change for the flight from Udon to Pattaya.

Longer flights due to prevailing winds.
Bkk>>>Tokyo 5 hrs
Tokyo->>>Bkk 7 hrs
NY ->>- LA 5 hrs
LA-->> NY 4 hrs
Have a safe and pleasant flight.

So the plane from U-Tapao lands in Udon late afternoon and just sits there overnight and flies back the following morning? That's not the model of a LCC.

Thai used to do that last high season with an additional evening flight on Fri, Sat and Sun that parked up and did the red-eye back to BKK on Sat, Sun and Mon. It was great for catching onward late morning flights and I could be in the office in Vietnam or Myanmar by mid afternoon. I hope they do it again this year as Thai Lion were the earliest alternative to DMK and the shuttle bus to BKK would just about beat the traffic. AirAsia and Nok were just 30 to 45 minutes too late for an easy connection.

Using AirAsia's smartphone app, the UTP flight time change wasn't in effect yesterday although their website shows the change from morning to afternoon. Maybe a caution for those that book via the app.
