Long Haul Airline Ticket Prices

Just booked my flight to Bangkok from the UK, l notice that many of the long haul airlines are now charging extra for what used to be included in the advertised ticket price, the same as is the norm with the short haul operatives.
By the time meals, baggage and seat selection has been added what looked like a good price turns into an expensive ole game.
Non stop BA flight London to Bangkok for £375 Is great if you don't mind where you sit, don't want a meal and your luggage is only carry on. Eva Air is similar, Thai Airways have not changed yet.
So it's Swiss Air for me on this trip.
