Flights to/from U-Tapao

Post by arjay » January 29, 2023, 8:54 pm

Can anyone give me an update on the possibility of flights to/from U-Tapao (Pattaya) to Udon Thani or Loei?

Or even U-Tapao to Vientiane.

Also U-Tapao to Chaing Mai?

Currently, I can find nothing for the former on the likes of Expedia.

Check this link. Stay safe.

Thanks, but as far as I can see that is out of date. An actual check only shows flights involving two legs, (via Don Muang).

The only direct, non-stops out of UTH right now are to Bangkok (both airports), Chiang Mai, Phuket and Haadyai.

#1 DMK 77 flights/week
#2 BKK 42 flights/week
#3 CNX 7 flights/week
#4 HKT 7 flights/week
#5 HDY 3 flights/week

Thanks.

And presumably the only flights to/from Loei are to/from Bangkok (DMK)?

Looking at wiki's for the underlined entities:

AOT still only manages 6 airports that don't include U-Tapao.
U-Tapao is operated by Department of Airports, but
Department of Airports does not list U-Tapao among their 28 airports.

The last mention of AOT having anything to do with U-Tapao is from several planning presentations dated around 2014 and 2017. An earlier one lists and entity called the Department of Civil Aviation or DCA which may have morphed into CAAT? That document says the Royal Thai navy still own the whole shebang, same as the U-Tapao wiki.

So that was a refreshing dive into Thailand's airport world. Sorry there's no answers but not unexpected with this government. I suppose they can always claim that Covid knocked things into a cocked hat though.

It seems truly amazing that in these days that here the MILITARY still need to have access to Militarily outdated sites, rendered as such by the technological advances in weaponary.

Don Muang upgrade was denounced by the RTAF , ( probably losing their Golf Course was a factor here ) here wa have the RTAF laying down the law regarding Udon Thai , now the Navy over U Tapao.

The military is PAID by the Government, their ludicrous denouncements ius nothing short of tying up Government Options just to prove a point. Thailand might state it is a democracy but it is onoy one step away fom what is happeneing in Myanmar. The Military still have TOO MUCH clout hee

The military IS the government here. Been pretty much that way since the 'Grand Mollusc', no?

ah, but the military like other government bureaucracies essentially own their bases and camps and any land. That means rent money. I wonder if landing fees for co-tenanted military/civilian airports go into whose pocket? As said, same gig as other bureaucracies. UD Town is on State Railway of Thailand (SRT) land. You know that rent money is going somewhere...
