true, you only live once, but if you're in better health, as you age, your quality of life will be better. I watched my Dad in his late 80's just totally decline in health from his inattention to diet and lack of any exercise at all.. If I am lucky enough to live until the age he did, 87 and change, or his mother who lived until 97, I'd like to maintain mobility and quality of life as much as possible. Keeping in decent shape through a moderate exercise program is part of that..

Slightly off topic,but do you know the two biggest things about farangs that turn off a Thai woman ??

1.No money or lack of it......disappointing news for the over 65's in blighty who are planning a new life in Thailand with a 20 year old oriental beauty and their only assets are their UK State Pension ! :cry:

2.A whopping great beer belly ! =;
This is a big turn off for Thai girls.Very frustrating for the farang who is humping away red faced and the girlfriend starts to play on her i-phone or starts to read a fashion magazine ! :(
You have to ask yourself "Do I really need to drink 8 pints of Chang and/or eat half a pound block of chocolate everyday?"

You have to plan to get rid of your big stomach and make yourself a "hansum man" again.
Exercise.....brisk walk for 30 minutes at least 5 times a week,swimming,cycling,golf etc.
Cut right back on the beer.....a couple of beers a day is fine but,initially,try doing without for a month and you will be surprised how your belly recedes.....but not easy,I know.
Chocolate and sweet desserts shouldnt be a daily occurrence.....once or twice a week is fine.
Diet.....obviously eat fresh fruit and vegetables but also try fish like salmon and mackerel that contain Omega 3 which helps break down your fat.
Cut right back on some big steaks as they can contain high fat.......leaner cuts are OK.
Cut out the junk food even if it means you lose the chance to chat up the cutie behind the counter at MacDonalds or KFC.
Dont waste your time doing 100 stomach crunches a day.It will strengthen your stomach muscles but wont get rid of your fat.

A couple of months of that regime and you'll be getting wolf whistles from the pretty girls in Central once again :^o
big belly a turn off.jpg
Just when I thought our chance had passed,you go and save the best for last.

Having a large gut (over 40") is not only unattractive but dangerously unhealthy and may lead to heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, etc. A diet high in omega-3 fatty acids (often referred to as the good fat) may help reduce that risk, but diet alone can't fix everything. Exercise and consuming unhealthy foods in moderation will not only help reduce the waistline, but minimize the risk of heart disease.

Omega-3's....http://www.webmd.com/diet/ss/slideshow- ... h-benefits

Until about 3 months ago I had negative results losing weight and I was on medication for hypertension. My exercise routine was walking for 30-45 minutes a day and my diet was fair, so I thought. Having reevaluating my eating habits and increasing my exercise routine I've lost 6 kilos and have gone off the hypertension meds. Along with exercise, I follow a diet high in omega-3's, high in protein, more fiber rich foods, less refined carbs and drinking lots and lots of water. . I didn't make any drastic changes to my diet, I just pay more attention to what and when I eat. Another thing that I believe has help contribute to my weight loss is drinking green tea (2 cups a day) and having 2tbsp of Chia Seeds a day.

These chai seeds, how do you consume them, do they need cooking? are they used like tea leaves in hot water? or are they eaten like peanuts, a handful at a time?
OT's not familiar with Chai Seeds, in fact never heard of them before papaguido mentioned them here.

@OT

I like keeping it simple and I have it with about 6oz of fruit juice. I use a small glass add 2 tbsp of CS add juice and let it sit in the fridge for about 30mins. The CS will absorb the liquid semi pudding like (less liquid more pudding like texture), then I stir a bit and drink it up.

@ BH

I get it from Villa market, they have several brands in stock. I use to get it from from a shop on Makkeang rd (across from the morning market), but they usually had to order it. Since Villa started carrying it I get from there and it's priced about the same, roughly 100bt for 100gr.

Forgot to add, Villa carries white chia seeds and black chia seeds package by the same company. Apparently there's no significant nutritional difference.

I've only ever purchased the light green package brand, I thinks it's 249gr for 249bt. I've seen CS stocked in two places, on the shelves in one of the aisles and on a display table near the front of the store behind the check out.

Yes, thank you papa, bob and shado, it goes to show that you never stop learning when it comes to the little things that can make a difference with your waistline and overall well being.
OT read all the links provided and cannot see any reason not to add chai seeds to the daily diet and see how things go.

Topps also sell.
2 varieties. 1 was 349 baht for 250 gram. So I bought the other (I was in there anyway :D ). Made by BBI Natural Products, & looks like a Thai product. Mixed black & white seeds, 200 gram for 209 baht, so not far off Papa's Villa price.

I made the 'egg muffins' I linked to above. Only OK are my thoughts, but I haven't put that down to the Chia seeds more the complete idea.
Plan to make some banana bread with them later in the week once the bananas have ripened a bit more.

The seeds I bought have best before date of 30/08/2016 so certainly don't have to rush to use them... :D

I understand that muscle mass helps consume energy (i.e. increase your metabolism) and old folks are losing muscle mass every year. Hit the weights if you're eating too much although what you eat and drink is more important.

I understand 80% of a bottle of wine has as many calories as a meal. Wine is almost cheaper than bottled water in farangland but perhaps not in Udon. Be wary of the old devil, grog.

Correct, after a weight lifting work out the body continues to burn fat (consume energy) for several hours. With aerobic activity such as running its less, 30-60min.

Drinking red wine in moderation (1 or 2 glasses) is actually good for the heart. Red wine contains resveratrol which helps increase`levels of HDL (the good cholesterol). Resveratrol is also found in cocoa with dark chocolate having higher levels than regular milk chocolate.
