AIDS - how many in soi little Pattaya

if Udon is about 0,5% off population than is it more than 7000 with aids here

Every day 16 people test positive for HIV/Aids in Thailand, according to statistics supplied by the Ministry of Public Health's Bureau of Epidemiology on Friday to mark World Aids Day.

This year alone the country saw 5,801 new cases, averaging 16 per day.

Thailand now has more than 1.5 million registered HIV/Aids-infected patients, accounting 2.3% of the population, according to statistics for 2015 from the same bureau.

To combat the disease the ministry aims to reduce the rate of infection to 1,000 cases a year by 2030, or three new patients per day.

Another target is to lower the fatality rate to 4,000 cases a year, down from 15,000 at present.

The authority has also launched a new initiative to reduce discrimination and encourage regular tests for the disease.

It has been 33 years since Thailand recorded its first case of HIV/Aids and then introduced controls and preventive measures. It enforced a healthcare policy granting easier access to antiretrovirals in 2002.

HIV/Aids patients are now entitled to healthcare benefits from the National Health Security Office.

The 2015 data also shows that around 355,000 patients were receiving antiretroviral medication as of that year, up 33,000 from 2014. This eases the financial burden for many patients, many of whom are spurned by even their own families.

Meanwhile, figures from the Aids, Tuberculosis and Sexually Transmitted Infections Control Division under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Health Department show that 80% of HIV infections in Bangkok are transmitted through sexual intercourse.

Over 60% of the infected are aged 25-39

Being HIV +ve doesn't carry quite the same social stigma as it used to, even in LOS. Pity the same can't be said for being seen down "soi little Pattaya". But since most of those tend to be well, well outside the quoted, critical 25-39 age group, carry on lads.

Good article, good links with plenty facts and statistics.

Pity the thread title lost the plot.

Do we need any specific credentials to play your wild speculation game?

Do you still play the field down "soi little Pattaya"?

Just trying to get some traction on where you want this thread to go.

I think that a clearer picture of how this is progressing, would be how many cases of HIV become AIDs.

The stigma has gone, which is largely due to education & how people view same sex intercourse.

I won't post the dreadful label that used to be attached to HIV.

Now people realise that it can transmitted by heterosexual contact.

The needle exchange programs will have also made IV users more careful. Be interesting to see the stats for that demographic.

Not "thinking on money" and my only interest in bars is if the beer they serve is cold enough.

You want to call the government on their statistics while pulling numbers out of your ass and stirring ----? Knock yourself out.

PS. Back in the 1980's, the oldest go-go bar in Pattaya famously advertised that there was no bar fine but the compulsory condom purchase was 700 baht.

Maybe it would be a good idea to tell people where they can go and get tested and how much it will cost ( Maybe compare the cost to a night with a lovely ....) instead of making light of a terrible disease!

I got an HIV test more than 12 months ago in Bangkok Hospital, I think it was free. :D
But unfortunately the rest of the medical tests and treatments including a flu shot were about 14,000 bht.

Had a test at Phayathai hospital in BKK a few years ago, cost 700 baht , result after a couple of hours. The nurse was very clear in telling me that the result meant I was clear 3 months ago as the test looks for antibodies which can take 3 months to develop if you are infected.
