does anybody know a good orthopedic doctor in udon thani???
think i cracked my achilles tendon.....

Dr Walin at Fort Prajak Hospital replaced my hip 6 mos ago.

He has a really good bedside manner, & wouldn't hesitate to see him again.

His English is quite good & understands all the medical terms. There is a Nurse called Noi who works in his clinic, who also speaks English.

Oh yes, & is not expensive; half the price of BKK hospital.

Dont forget the Physio needed after you see the Dr,

Medications might relieve the pain, but Physio gets you walking again

Your description of cracked is a different one.
I have had unfortunately a few footy mates over the years do there Achilles.
Usually 2 scenarios

A couple heard the snap or crack with a full tear and an operation to repair and some extended time out. They could not move their foot at the time of the infury because the tendon is connected from the heel bone to the calf muscle.

Others just had slight to moderate strains and with iceing and rest and the use of crutches for a while etc the tendon healed itself.
Good luck with the doctor and I really hope you only have a strain that will come good without an operation.

As wazza said some physio will be required.

Tear, Strained, Cracked, Pulled , Torn, all the same pathophysiology, damage to the tendon but still in tact most likely.

Ruptured, where the tendon disassociates from the bone but can still be attached or a complete rupture when its torn off literally. Heard one " Go Off" on a hockey field years ago, cant miss it!

Best people to look after these injuries, are Clinicians and Phyisos who specialise in Sports Injuries, In Udon that would be a challenge.

As Barney has stated, RICE still applies today - Rest Ice Compression and Elevation

I would add a strong ankle support also, that allows the joint to remain very stable. You need to be able to feel its insitu tightly.

If the Dr gives you Anti inflammatories like Indocid or Diclofenac remember these will most likely cause some stomach upsets ( take after meals ) and they dont really provide much clinical support long term.

If they want an X Ray it should be a an Ultrasound, not a film.

Pay the 200 baht to the Dr for his signature to refer you to a Physio, unless you need surgery . IMO

I saw Dr Walin at his Clinic on Mittraphap Road just yesterday afternoon.

I had a Steroid Injection in my thigh for chronic tendonitis.

The cost in total, including some 'pain killers' was 500 baht.

The number is: 092 293 3665 & is open today. His wife will answer the phone & doesn't speak much English, so maybe better if you get your wife to call her.
Yes, I know that a cracked tendon most probably cannot be fixed with an injection, but there's always a long wait at Fort Prajak, & seeing him at his clinic will speed things up.

dr. warin did a great op. even had to fix the tendon with some screws. had a cast 30 degree down. today after only two weeks he cleared the stiches and thew the cast in the trash. light groundtouch possible. start also with gentle movments. no pain. feel good......

1)The orthopaedic surgeon who works at Fort Prajak Military Hospital on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays is Dr Warin
2) The telephone number of his private clinic is 0910583535. His receptionist does not speak good English and is better to have a Thai ring for you.
3) His clinic is located on the main Nong Khai highway. Approximately 11 Kms from its junction with the ring road at Udon. Heading toward Nong Khai the clinic is located on the left hand side. Immediately past the Holy Mary Undonthani School. The school is an inposing brown building. The clinic is the first of the terraced block
4) I saw him today (Sunday) for a painful upper leg. For the consultation, injection for suspected tight muscle and medication fo 6 days I was charged 350 Baht
5) He has given me a letter to take to Fort Prajak tomorrow for an x-ray, after which, I will see him there.
6) He kindly gave me a free tube of anti-septicic cream for an infected bite he noticed on my leg during the examination.

Dr Warin done a full hip replacement for me 4 weeks ago. Now walking without sticks and using motorbike (auto start and gearbox)
Cost was 125000 baht including medication and walking frame to take home. Great guy.

Yup, he's got a great personality, & has a quite wry sense of humour.

When I had my hip replaced 14 mos ago, I asked him who manufactured the implant.

He told me not to worry, as it wasn't Chinese.

Full hip replacement ??one side or both sides , some confusion by most ,(or maybe just me ) for some full means complete one side for others it means total both sides , sounds like a fast recovery , i need 1 knee , and both sides of hip ,

A full hip replacement means the stem & socket. Partial is stem only.

Does anyone have the current contact information for Dr Warin private clinic as this topic shows 2 different phone numbers and 2 different locations

whats the symptoms of tendonitis ?? as i have a nagging thigh pain and xray show all fairly normal hip sockets with just some wear..cocking my leg over bike cross bar caused it

Pain, swelling, mobility of the joint gets harder, around a joint can be red, went to see Dr Warin and agree he's a good Dr had injections for inflammation and steroid for pain, also prescribed medicine for same. Will see him again next week total cost today was 600 baht. Sounds cheap but looking at 7 problems in my shoulder cost to repair 100000 (army hospital) cost at Bangkok uUdon nearer 200000. 3 other areas currently cannot or no point to repair - the price of getting older

Sorry should have added he also said wants to visit our strawberry farm and that massages might help, told him you tell the wife that as me trying to explain massages won't go down as well as the massage yes he has a dry sense of humour. How can the wife fight that one massage ordered by the Dr
