Here's an update on David Folland......some of you recently contributed to his cancer treatment. David was a longtime English teacher at Rahjapat University. For anyone interested in attending the funeral service, the home is about the 12 or 13 KM marker going north to Nong Khai.

Ajan David passed away at T0535 this morning, 14 July. He leaves behind his Thai wife (traditional), Noy, & his 25-yo step-daughter, Phuky. For those who knew him or are otherwise interested, the funeral will take place Friday afternoon at 3 pm at his house & will be conducted by catholic monks.

The total amount in donations that I collected & delivered to David was 67,200 TB. Though David's family will have to tough it out & find a new source of income (now that David has died), your donations allowed David to both reclaim Noy's land & house from loan sharks and to spend his last 12 days or so in a hospital bed with nurses & friends looking out for him. The second-to-last thing he said to me was what a tremendous relief the money had been to him, how it not only had lifted the pressure of possibly leaving his wife homeless but had also given him hope that he could beat the cancer & return to teaching. This nearly brings tears to my eyes, because the donations were sort of a miracle & would never have occurred if Jacob Thomas had not forwarded my email to Ron Bates who subsequently put the word out to the masses.

Joe Davis
Lt, USN (Ret.)

David's house is on the left side of the street under a green street sign just past the 24 KM road marker as you're heading into Nong Khai from Udon Thani.

Very sad! A very likeable larger than life character.

Sorry, I got a bit mixed up different threads when posting this. My post referred to a 2009 picture of David in this thread:

I think I mentioned in an earlier post that, although I only met David a few times, I met several of his students on different occasions. It got to the point where, if I met a girl in a Rahjabat uniform and she spoke English well, it was almost a sure bet David was her teacher at some point.
