Eddie Carey, previously of the world famous Eddies Bar, and one of Ban Dung and Udon Province's real characters, died at his home just outside Ban Dung last night.

He had been in poor health for some time.

Eddie will be missed by many.

RIP

RIP, Eddie. Had planned to visit you early May. Sorry to hear you can't be there. I will miss your dry wit and humour. Safe journey.

We are looking for a reasonable photo of Eddie to enlarge for his funeral, I have several but they are not very flattering.
Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Looks like the British Embassy have stopped throwing hoops, red tape etc. and issued a release for Eddies body (in Khon Kaen). Hopefully a funeral date and time later today.

Eddies home village is approx 16 km from Ban Dung .

Put these co-ordinates into Google Maps, or Google Earth

Thanks Dean, close up of the village. I believe the Wat is the building to the East of the house at the bottom of the picture.

Yesterday Dao n I attended the funeral of "Ban Dung" Eddie ... it took place in his home village approx 16km outside Ban Dung at the temple where he walked his dog , he liked the place as it was very quiet so fitting he was laid to rest there.

The funeral itself was very well attended with many expats there as well as Thais , a traditional open air cremation in very hot weather.

RIP mate.

As an update ...

Yesterday Dao n I drove thru to Ban Dung to see Pin Eddies wife , it was the first time since he passed away and seemed strange to go and Eddie not being there , miss his banter and friendship .

Pleased to say Pin is keeping the business going well and even tho quite early quite a few customers , i had the full English breakfast the big one ... twas fantastic and the best i have had for years , Dao said you will never eat all that BUT FATBOY did the trick and twas soon history !!!!

If in BD well worth a visit nice menu with all the western favs plus very good Thai food .

Eddie would be proud and pleased that Pin is doing such a great job .

On behalf of Pin, thank you for the kind words Jon. I have just returned after an extended stay in Aust. and -- Yes, Bun Dung is extremely quite at the moment but Pin is continuing to uphold the business 'IN SPITE' of some suppliers down South giving her a hard time as well as the 'typical Thai' lack of driving and navigating skills restricting her movements around Udon. I believe Green Dean is being very helpful.

She is very strong and will prevail. Oh, it's no secret she is in the market for a new 'Farang' -- The applicant will need to be to be somewhat less fragile than Eddie as his (past) broken bones would attest too!

BD.....Yes Pin did say a few suppliers who Eddie dealt with directly doon Sarf were being a bit awkward and i will do my best to assist and sort this out for her .

Pin is a very strong lady , a lovely attractive lass and im sure a "farang" will soon latch on ... Eddie did say to me just before he passed away that he had told Pin that when he died she must find another expat not a Thai and keep the business going , must say it appears she is doing a great job on her own , as you say the next fella will have to be on the ball as she has a mean right hook and handy with a rolling pin ....

Eddie .. gone but never forgotten .
