Former England striker and Tottenham's record goalscorer Jimmy Greaves has died at the age of 81.
Greaves began his career with Chelsea before spells at AC Milan, Spurs and West Ham.
He scored 44 goals in 57 games for England and was a member of the 1966 World Cup-winning squad.
Greaves scored 266 goals in 379 matches for Tottenham and holds the record for the most goals in a season for Spurs with 37 in 1962-63.
A Tottenham statement read: "We are extremely saddened to learn of the passing of the great Jimmy Greaves, not just Tottenham Hotspur's record goalscorer but the finest marksman this country has ever seen.
"Jimmy passed away at home in the early hours of this morning, aged 81."
Tottenham said Greaves possessed "immaculate ball control, great balance and such composure in front of goal that he rarely spurned an opportunity".
He scored a hat-trick on his Spurs debut against Blackpool in December 1961, in the FA Cup final win in 1962 and the Cup Winners' Cup win in 1963.
Greaves is survived by his wife Irene, four children and 10 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Consider myself privileged to have seen the legend play for Spurs, West Ham, Brentwood and England.
A legend in a time when to be a legend meant something

I never saw him play as I didn't start going to matches until the 1980s but I heard he was rather good. I liked him on Saint and Greavsie.

R.I.P. Jimmy Greaves.....

RIP football legend Jimmy Greaves: England, Tottenham and Chelsea footballing great has died aged 81
Nobody scored more top-flight goals in English football than Greaves, who was part of the triumphant 1966 World Cup squad.
Greaves scored a record-breaking 266 goals in 379 competitive appearances for Tottenham, winning two FA Cups, and also played for Chelsea, AC Milan and West Ham.
He also scored 44 goals in 57 appearances for England and is fourth on the all-time England goalscorers list behind Wayne Rooney, Sir Bobby Charlton and Gary Lineker.
Greaves wound down his playing career with stints at West Ham and Barnet before starring alongside former Liverpool striker Ian St John in the popular ITV programme 'Saint and Greavsie' between 1985 and 1992, which saw him become a popular pundit.
After a long campaign Greaves finally received a World Cup winners' medal in 2009; five years later he sold it in an auction at Sotheby's for £44,000.
In later life, Greaves endured health problems, including a minor stroke in 1992 from which he recovered, but it was followed by a serious stroke in May 2015 which saw him unconscious for six days in intensive care and later left in a wheelchair.

Better late than never. Who knew? Thanks for the update.
