As with half the British Museum, the English are only "looking after" these artifacts until the colonials are capable of looking after them for themselves. Its obvious to everyone that the Scots are not capable, you only have to look at their cricket team or Scottish goalkeepers, as soon as there's any pressure they are bound to drop the thing

They did drop the stone in the abbey, it ended up in two pieces.
