Re: Just lost 3 Australian Icons
I'd always assumed Dame Edna was a Pom - based on her royal title, and posh ways.
There was no mistaking Les of course - he was one of Tony's pin-ups, and suitably rewarded.
Never heard of Barry Humpfries.

Re: Just lost 3 Australian Icons
Dame Edna's persona was scripted as a post war Melbourne house wife with delusions of joining the English gentry.
Barry Humphries did go to the UK for some time in the 60's where the Barry McKenzie character was created and later the movie The Adventures of Barry McKenzie.
Tributes from all over rolling in now.

He was never a cast member, I cannot remember him ever making a guest appearance on any episodes
He did appear as a character in quite a few movies, Finding Nemo, Blinky Bill, one of the Hobbit movies and others.
Humphries was a one-off, a rare and unique talent.

Suspected that might be the case, but with a couple of alzhimer candidates...... that is a joke!
