Gyms in Udon Thani

Post by JAtwell99 » January 25, 2013, 8:38 am

Moving to Udon Thani in March. Wanting to hear people's thoughts on the best gyms in the city. Looking for a variety of good equipment and weights.

Also please mention a monthly/yearly membership fee and hours of operation if known.

Also, are there any places within the city where people go to jog??

Thanks!! :D

There are at least 8 fitness centers that I know of. The best? Depends on what your needs are. For me the best gym is Big City gym, a weight lifters gym, not much in the way of aerobic exercise equipment.

http://biggymcity.com/Workoutprices.html

1. Big City Gym (located south-east ring road, 50bt a day)
2. Physical Education College (west ring road)
3. UD Fitness (near Soi Sampan & Central, 50bt a day)
4. Army Hospital (Tahan Road)
5. One located between Romyen Village 3 & 4 (east ring road)
6. One behind Wattana Hospital, 60bt daily (not the one in Wattana Hosp.)
7. Wattana Hosp.
8. Southwest corner of Nong Prajak park/lake.
*Some of the bigger hotels also have fitness centers.

The phys Ed college has it all, running track, swimming pool & fitness center, a good value, but I also hear it's a bit of a social club, friend of mine quit going for that reason.

Jogging tracks are popular Nong Prajak park/lake with a 3k track, Nong Boa park/lake is 2k and Nong Sim park/lake is less than 2k.

Awesome! Thank you for your thorough response.
I have heard about that big city gym, but that website you posted says it is closing down before I even arrive. But I will definitely be checking out some of these places you mentioned--

Damn, that's news to me. You think someone at gym would have mentioned it.

Having reached the wonderful age of 64, I find constant exercise win the garden and walking the best way to keep fit. I don't nned to weight lift or even jog ( can't anyway ) but watching my diet, careful about what i eat and gentle exercise daily keeps the system working well. medically and personally.
Why pay for somehting that you can do yourself and is probably better for you.
So many come here and become almost chair bound and sit drinking and watching TV, their health declines and they wonder why. It ain't that hot, walk < my ex used to ride a m/cyc for 100 yds, walk, the good lord gave you legs, use the bloody things.

Do any of these have a swimming pool (besides the phys Ed college)?

Order online. They deliver to Thailand.

http://www.Puritan.com

I place a yearly vitamins and supplements order for the KD family.

Just FYI in case anyone is considering same to avoid having to leave home or spend on a membership: We added a fully equipped fitness room last year. ~120k for a 5.5 m x 4.5 m room and about the same for equipment, furnishings, and fixtures including it's own 13k BTU A/C unit. I recommend the builders without reservation for any room addition (or even a whole-house build, for that matter). They are the real deal and usually work on full build projects, but they do smaller projects if between big jobs. I will be using them again later on.

PM if interested.

Centara, Napoli, and Ban Chiang that I know of. Not sure about Centara, but the other two offer daily/monthly/annual rates.

In addition to the centers papaguido mentioned, there is also:
UD Fitness
98/5 Adulyadej Soi 3 (same soi Little Italian Restaurant is on)
Tom (owner): 081-269-5541

Tom also sells Dymatize protein powder and other assorted fitness supplements: http://www.dymatize.com/ products/

Excellent info. I anticipate moving from Pattaya to UT in October to a place out near the airport. I had two pretty bad heart attacks in April. Now that the stent is installed, I've been fairly serious about delaying heart attack number three as long as possible.

A few weight machines are nice, but most of what I'm looking for is a treadmill and recumbent bike without needing to buy my own. I suspect if I had them at home, they would end up not getting used. So far, making the effort to get to the gym here in Pattaya, I'm getting to the gym M-F. I need that to continue when I'm in UT.

There's also a gym at the driving range behind the airport.

Pompui, with the help of your friend could you be more specific as to the exact location of UD Fitness. Is that the new one that Parrot told us about a few weeks back that was to open the first week of November?
Colossians 2:8-10...See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. For in HIM dwells all the fullness of the GODHEAD bodily; and you are complete in HIM, who is the head of all principality and power.
