Don't know if this thread will have legs, but here goes:
There are lots of things that scream out "Thailand", but how about things that scream out "Isaan"? While at the jungle market in HuiDeua (ห้วยเดือ) a few days ago, I snapped this photo of frogs for sale. To me, it's an example of something that's quintessentially Isaan. Anyone else?

Nice one Parrot this could be a very interesting thread , lets hope for some really engaging images from around Isaan not so much cultural ... but a bit of history none the less and sadly technology seems to be meaning old photos are stored on memory cards etc rather than on card in a frame hung on a wall .
Yesterday was National Childrens day ... came across this lovely old sepia photo of two young girls the one on the left is Dao at 9 years of age .. a little cutie then and still is today .

The only thing missing from that placenta photo is a sweet young thing manhandling a hunk of it for a customer. Yum!
Nice photos. Check out the prices on those wasp/bee larvae!!

Nothing quite like a big ol' bowl of chittlins and placenta and some wasp larva pudding for dessert.

The ubiquitous kwai.

This screams Charlie Manson at Kilo 18! Our cat doesn't seem to bother the local birds. But gecko and tukay lizards........his favorite. A house gecko goes right down the hatch....but the tukay must first be murdered. I've been on the computer in the evening, when I hear a tukay at the window munching insects. Then.....bam! The cat leaps several feet in the air and brings the tukay down to the ground. The cat never eats the head.....and sometimes leaves the tail as well. But he always always eats his prey in the same corner spot of our porch. In today's case......the photo shows all that's left.
Sorry about the blood and guts.....but it is what it is. Quintessentially Isaan.

Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)
On our way to the jungle market at Hui Deuah (on the way to Nongbualamphu) we passed by this photo opportunity. I'm sure someone with photography savvy could come up with a better photo than mine.......but this is pretty much as I see it when passing by in our vehicle. Anyone out there want to take a guess at what's going on in the photo?
Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)
I really don't know what going on there. My guess would be that cut bamboo is being dried for future sale or use.
Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)
It's the neighborhood rocket 'factory'.....บั้งไฟ The factory used to be closer to our home, but has now moved up the main highway toward Nongwahsaw. The bamboo has to be straightened and dried before adding the warhead.
Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)
Dang! I should have recognized that. Makes perfect sense. Definitely quintessentially Isaan.

Our little piece of property with some of our own quintessentially Isaan.
Rice paddy's are drying with just some mud holes left to dig holes for crab collection and the rice stems stacked up ready to feed the buffalo.

Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)
The photo reminds me of a national geographic episode........some beast of an animal getting the last sips of a drying puddle....when.........suddenly.......out leaps some humongous croc and takes down the beast.
Nice photos....thanks for sharing

Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)
Only in Isaan would you take your shoes off BEFORE walking the 200 or so yds down the concrete path
Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)
the shoe racks are at the head of the bridge with a sign advising everyone to remove their shoes...

Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)
But (being Isaan ) there is no sign at the foot of the bridge, so most take their shoes off there, and walk barefoot on the hot or wet concrete
Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)
If it the same place I'm thinking of (Wat Kham Chanot) there are a couple of signs, (the small white signs on each of the small buildings) that says to "leave shoes here". If it is another location, I wouldn't know.
