เทศกาลสารทไทย Ancestor Day

Post by parrot » September 4, 2017, 3:42 pm

5 Sept is a Buddhist day.......typical day for folks to visit the temple, make offerings, pick lucky numbers, etc. But tomorrow is a special day for folks to make offerings to ghosts, ancestors (depending on what you believe). Besides the normal offerings of food to the monks, people will bring homemade desserts....usually wrapped in banana leaves...to be blessed by the monks and the left around the temple walls for the spirits that reside there.
The past few days have been busier than normal at the markets......folks preparing for the 5th by buying a wide variety of fruits, flowers, banana wrapped tobacco, candles, etc for tomorrow's ceremony. Another fun day in paradise!

So if you run out of cigs tomorrow, you just nip down the temple and unwrap a few banana leaves instead of going all the way down to 7/11 :-k
