New Ranking System?
New Ranking System?
Lee,
Mind explaining what the reasoning is for changing to a new ranking system? All members are rated as Member III, irregardless of the number of posts that they have contributed to this forum, 0 or nearly 15,000? Seems like a backhanded sleight to many who have carried and supported UdonMap. Tell me this is a work in progress. Please.

Re: New Ranking System?
I don't think it's a rating system Polehawk, I 'm pretty sure it's just an image used to display the user's rank, (i.e. member/moderator etc), I have to agree though, it does look rather like a regimental 'number of stripes obtained' rank ...but it's not supposed to be!

I rather like the military connection . We can of course look forward to pips for the commissioned ranks?

I imagine you would be terribly disappointed, no longer being able to achieve the rank of "UM Guru".trubrit wrote:I rather like the military connection . We can of course look forward to pips for the commissioned ranks?

Very sad Jack but I will settle for using the officers mess again .jackspratt wrote:I imagine you would be terribly disappointed, no longer being able to achieve the rank of "UM Guru".trubrit wrote:I rather like the military connection . Re: New Ranking System?
A couple of days ago I added a new user group and custom icon for the sponsors. Whilst I was doing this I decided to upgrade the icons for all other groups to match the new style. The icon I'm using is a simple box with three lines, the lines have no relevance to ranks, it's simply an icon style.polehawk wrote:Lee,

I've done away with ranks and replaced them with groups i.e. members, sponsors, admin etc. Members support and contributions can easily be seen from their previous posts, post count and joined date.
If members would prefer a ranking system or have any other ideas or suggestions please let me know and I'll sort it out.
Re: New Ranking System?
Yeah, well, I admit I was looking forward to being promoted to a Guru, only 10 posts short of it. I would be in favor of the old ranking system with some adjustments. Rated as a piece of furniture? Nah, how about "Big Kahuna"? The lurkers with 0 or just a few posts should be rated as "FNG". That might spur them to opine a bit and join in on the fun.
Actually, the new system does put us all on equal footing. Has kind of a socialist or communist feel to it, innit? That should please some of the arch-conservatives in this forum.

Re: New Ranking System?
As it happens, you have a number of choices to get yourself ranked on Udon Map. OT's going to buy a gogo bar or restaurant or something like that in Udon - then - pay lee a few baht and become a sponser - then - OT will have his name in red. My application for becoming a moderator was refused so there is no chance of having my name in green.

Re: New Ranking System?
I've added a poll above.
Re: New Ranking System?
Well since it's your birthday I've given you the guru title, Happy Birthday polehawk!polehawk wrote:Yeah, well, I admit I was looking forward to being promoted to a Guru

ph, why do you need to find a mountain?
Let the mountain find you!
Let the mountain find you!
Re: New Ranking System?
Let the mountain come to you? So that's how it works, Jack? Thanks for the guruing lesson, O Wise Swami.
Re: New Ranking System?
Guru I suspect are supposed to be fountains of information or guides in the seeking of greater knowledge, so that i find the Rank/titke whatever Guru, is a bit misleading, Moderator Ok i can live with that, anything else who really cares.

Re: New Ranking System?
Although it may not be fair to some of the newer members, I tend to give more credence to the content of posts from those who:
Those who have been members for some time can be worked out from the date they joined, however some form readily discernible “pictorial” ranking system would help – however, as above, it should be noted that being a member of long standing also carries no guarantee that the content of what they post is actually worth reading.
Familiar “avatars” can also be useful (currently being covered in other threads) - however these are not always unique to any one individual.
As an aside, those who have a history of posting rubbish and peddling their own prejudices and ideologies I tend to ignore – I find it disappointing that the maturity in years of some members seems to be incapable of being translated into posts which are mature, objective and accurate in their content.
- 1. Are, or have been,” active posters” and
2. Have been members for some considerable time

And that boring financial cr@p from old f@rts that rely on their old age pension, peddling their own prejudices and out of date ideologies, OT ignores them.

Re: New Ranking System?
No. There you go, another post to my total but my ego has not been inflated.
Re: New Ranking System?
Actually the date you joined can be misleading, I did in fact join much earlier than my date about 2006 i believe but not sure , location is udon still is, so date of joining can NOT be a certainty and i do agree many who have been here a long time do try to peddle their own version of the truth which for an informative web site is often dangerous and misleading to those seeking accurate info.
Re: New Ranking System?
KP, let me refresh your memory since you brought it up. You first joined on April 30, 2007 as Guns482. Is it coming back yet? Do you really want to go there? You were caught using two IDs and talking to yourself. Your alter ego, Guns482, doesn't appear to have been a very popular poster. A nice job of IP tracing by LA outed you. Here is a memorable thread that you started and then scurried away, chastened and embarrassed:Khun Paul wrote:Actually the date you joined can be misleading, I did in fact join much earlier than my date about 2006 i believe but not sure , location is udon still is, so date of joining can NOT be a certainty and i do agree many who have been here a long time do try to peddle their own version of the truth which for an informative web site is often dangerous and misleading to those seeking accurate info.

Yes, this could add some interest to the thread!polehawk wrote: Enjoy the read, I did.
BTW this is a 2nd generation site. Prior to early July 2005 a large percentage of the members on the first few pages were members of the original Udonmap. I can't remember why the rebirth took place.
