Wayne
The chicken hearts were in a tesco bag so i think the guy brought them with him. There is also a guy selling fishing rods at the new Gnee soon super store on the ring road, prices seemed OK but I havent checked out the shop near the train station.

TIP,, get a small set of pointed nose plyers as these will be use full for removing the hook from the fishes mouth.

Bill, thanks
I do have my old cherished fishing rods and gear. I just haven't used it for years (been deer hunting instead, but that is not so popular in Thailand I gather ;)

OK, I will get some chicken hearts..

The fish seems to have the same wide variety of taste as Isaan people. They eat the most astounding things, it is quite a challenge to keep up.

Baits are many. The Plaa Nin, being mainly vegetarians, can be caught on bread, if you can keep it on the hook (They nibble instead of swallowing). jeramid like fruit. Spinning not usually used except for snakeheads.

They were open Wednesday. No indication that the park would close. I know Paul mentioned that there would be an annual three week closure at the end of Sept. but apparently that has not happened.

I didnt know they had snakeheads at the park ...???
I have 28 of them up to 3 kilo in a pond in my garden in Mu Mon, it used to be a catfish / gold fish pond until I put the snakeheads in, now only Snakeheads left :-"

Not certain if Snakeheads in Sabai sabai, but only fish commonly found around Udon which are likely to take spinners (But have not tried much so far). Not certain if spinning is allowed at sabai Sabai.

I've seen them using them at Sabai Sabai but whether allowed is another story.
I’m away down there now for a day’s fishing so will ask if theres anyone there that can comprehend what I'm talking about.

Yes Rick, there are snakeheads in the water at Sabai Sabai. Mostly striped snakeheads (pla chon) but a few giant snakeheads (pla shado) as well. The fish in Billg's photo is a giant snakehead (pla shado) (Channa Micropeltes).

I've caught pla chon there and a couple of weeks ago two were caught by my fishing partners. I've seen the pla shado being stocked there but I've not seen one caught yet. There are a few snakehead pics on the photo board at the office.

I've caught snakehead at Sabai Sabai on an artificial lure, but lures (spinners) are hard to fish because of other fishermen's lines in the water and as snakeheads typically relate to cover along the banks of the lake it is difficult to fish these border areas between the bungalows. Just not enough casting space. I have only been successful fishing artificial lures for snakeheads when the bungalows were vacant.

Pacu (pla jermet) will also take a small spinner, but it has to be fished very slowly and the lure is subject to hanging up on weeds and dead plants on the bottom.

Spinners certainly used to be allowed there - I had a (very unsuccessful :( )afternoon trying a couple when Pail was there a while back.
As Shado points out more than a few disadvantages to using them at the Park - plus my major one - lack of success :D one I have not encountered when using any other traditional form of fishing... :D

Took some Chiang Mai relatives who were visiting to Sabai Sabai last week and had an enjoyable time. Caught some pretty good sized pla nin, jeramid and even a couple that looked like red snappers. Picked a cool, breezy day and the Leo beers were cold and delicious. Always a good time out there. :D

Guys,

Paul has some medical problems and is back in Bonnie Scotland having them taken care of. The Park is open for Business as usual.
