World Series 2010
Re: World Series 2010
Ahh, the playoffs. We've been traveling the past couple of weeks and I didn't watch any of the games. I reckon the national pastime playoffs and series brings out the patriotic side of the seventh inning stretchers.
Re: World Series 2010
Patriotism is bad among cricketers.
For obvious reasons.

The REAL Sgt. Bilko would have had money down on every game.Bilko wrote:Christ ! I'am sorry i asked.
Call it what you will but the "World Series" appellation is a better fit now than it was over a hundred years ago. It's not unusual to see ballplayers from Canada, Australia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and other places around the globe on the major league rosters and playing dominant roles. Besides, "Baseball... been berry berry good... to me." - as Chico Escuela on SNL would say.
Play ball! =D>

Re: World Series 2010
Too bad about the weak pairings in this year's series. The Giants have won a number of pennants but nothing since they abandoned the Polo Grounds to make the trek to the left coast. They have been cursed from winning the World Series ever since.
The Texas Rangers are the old Washington Senators, and this will be their first appearance in the fall classic. Their saving grace is that they have the old fireballer, Nolan Ryan, as an owner.
A New York Yankees - Giants series would have been more attractive. Does anyone remember the '62 Series when Bobby Richardson snared a drive from McCovey or Cepeda to save the day for New York in the bottom of the 9th? The Series was tied at three games each, and if that had been a hit, the Giants would have won the day.
The best news that could emerge from this year's World Series will be if the Texas ace, Lee, decides to join the Yankees next year.
So, it would be nice to see the Giants win, but its is alright if the Rangers do.

I doubt Samuel Johnson's wise and prescient words would have much following today in the land of the "Patriot(s) Act".
Re: World Series 2010
lol... Paki cricket games could have used a healthy dose of a patriot act.
Perhaps the term "all-out" wouldn't refer to players scrambling out the windows of a bullet ridden bus.

Sarge, that's what's wrong with this country. They need someone to set up a proper lottery and a few Indian casinos with Bilko-run card games. And build some proper baseball stadiums (stadii?) with Ball Park Franks and plentiful plumes of cigar smoke wafting in the air. [-o<

The Giants chased the Ranger's ace pitcher and New York/San Francisco leads Texas/Washington 8-2 after five innings. Go Giants!

8-4 Giants in the bottom of the 7th as the Rangers are making a valiant effort to seize victory from the jaws of defeat. Go Texas!

Even schoolteachers/profs need to get a little shuteye or maybe he had some papers to correct, misspellings and what-not. Would have been 11:44 pm (in Toronto) at time of last post by Tilo.
So, Game 1 is history with a big Giants win, 11-7. Neither Lee nor Lincecum was very impressive but they'll be back, especially Lee since looking for huge free agent bucks from the Yankees. He may have to go there alone. Seems the classy Yankee fans were yelling profanities and spitting on the Ranger wives during the ALCS series.

About the unfinished business...hmmm...I thought I did post the final score with a Go Giants cheer at the end indicating that I am willing to hop on any winning bandwagon. This is what happens when you are really old and not following through on supposed posts. Dear me!

It's a wrap. The Giants win a squeaker 9-0, and go up 2 games to nil.
Re: World Series 2010
Game 3 of the World Series will be starting an hour earlier tomorrow from Arlington, Texas so set those alarm clocks for 6 am Thai time. Starting pitchers will be Jonathan Sanchez for the Giants and Colby Lewis for Texas. Advantage to Texas since they will be able to use Vladimir Guerrero as DH at this American League site. Hide his glove, please.

I was hoping they would play him at shortstop Go Giants =D> =D> =D>
Fun having a ''dog in the hunt''!If it was any other team than San Francisco,I would be cheering for the Rangers to win their first ever World Series, but since SF has never won it,although the Giants won it in 54 when they were the NY Giants,I'll stick to my home team!
Sounds like the TV people are unhappy because the viewing market is down 25% from last year Those East coast viewers don't have anybody to cheer for
