Information about Kumphawapi

I'm interested about Amphoe Kumphawapi.

I am going to relocate for a period in this place, so I want to know if there is a hospital there or a helth center, or something like that.

Can anybody help me please?

Don't know much about this ampur Kumphawapi.I think main street has numerous shops probably a 7/11.I know the train stops there.
I'm sure some one will tell more.

Kumphawapi is located about 45 km south of Udon. The town itself is located about 5km east of Rte 2, the main road. The train does not stop in Kumpawapi itself but at the train station which is near Rte 2. A regular Songtaew route goes from Udon (Ha Yaak roundabout) to near Kumpawapi where they stop at Ban Phan Don, about 600 meters east of Rte 2. Further Songtaew's go over to Kumpawapi itself.
Ban Kumpawapi was originally an island during the rainy season. Nong Han Kumawapi is a lake that extends from east of the twon, to north and northwest.. Years ago (back during my first visit there in 73) it extended to the west side too. The town is the Amphoe capital with government offices, banks, (wth ATM's of course) 7-11, and varous other small stores and shops. Living in the town itself wouldn't be too bad and if you have a car for transportaton is about 30 minutes from Udon.

Don't know how we ended-up in the Southern but looking at the
Thai spelling of this place (กุมภวาปี) I want to hazard a guess it's
pronounced more like "goom-pha-wa-bpee", might make the
difference between someone understanding you or staring at
you like a crazy person, which happens to me just all the time.

Thought FrazeeDK gave you that information. A 30 minute drive to Udon and you will have a choice of at least 5 major hospitals. Don't know if Kumphawapi has any local doctors but don't sell them short. Many years ago I used to rely on local doctors in Udon for minor illnesses such as food poisoning, tonsilitis, etc. instead of the US Air Force doctors at the air base and they always came through for me.

A regular Songtaew route goes from Udon (Ha Yaak roundabout) to near Kumpawapi where they stop at Ban Phan Don, about 600 meters east of Rte 2. Further Songtaew's go over to Kumpawapi itself.

Actually the Songtaew route starts in Udon between the two roundabouts, stops at the Kumpawapi-Pandon busstation along motorway 2, then stops at Pandon town (1 km east of motorway 2), and ends at the market in Kumpawapi town.
You can also take the green bus to Wangsammor from the Udon busstation, it also stops in Kumpawapi town.

I don't know if there is a hospital in Kumpawapi, I will ask my wife. But I would advise you to go to Udon (AEK-Udon or Paolo) if you have to go to a hospital.

The only healthplace I know in Kumpawapi is at the KP-hotel in Pandon. They have a fitness centre, a swimming pool and a (traditional Thai) massage shop.

Kumphawapi has an hospital, but I would honestly recommend travelling the 30 km to Udon instead.

i have just been there , quiet village, a lot monkey's , not really much to see....., they do have a hospital ,but probably our member wayneor0 who has a pizza shop there can enlighten you....
btw cali they do pronounce it kumphawapi..., no matter what you call it same monkey city...watch your belongings...

they have got a hospital there but it is verry basic and i would not reckonmend it for fallangs

For native English speakers it is pronounced something like "Gumpawarbpii" for speakers of most other European languages it sounds something like "Kumphawaapie".

There are several activities during the year. For instance,in November every year there are longboat races on the river.

In the centre of town is a small park with monkeys. There is a market and two 7-11s, and a lot of small shops and restaurants, but no large supermarket.

Yes there is a hospital, I have been there a couple of times. It is on the way to the sugar factory,
just past the PT gasstation on the left side.
I have heard good as well as terrible stories about Kumpawapi hospital. I guess that if you have a major problem, it's better to go to a hospital in Udon city.

I have lived in the next Amphoe to the south of Kumpawapi (Non Sa-at) for 13 years and used to go to Kumpa quite often for shopping up till last year when we got our own 7-11and TESCO.
Now we only go to K. if we miss the electricity bill collector and have to go to pay at the Provincial Electricity Authority Office, or if my wife gets a touch of neuralgia we go to K. at a weekend to a doctor there, in whom she has great faith. He is a senior doctor at a Government Hospital in Khon Kaen during the week and has a private clinic in K. at the weekend.

I have found my local hospital fine for the little things and the hospital (Srinakarind) of the Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (KKU) fine for the bigger things (heart surgery and hip replacements etc).

For dentistry, the clinic at KKU is superb.
It is huge (6-storey) as you would expect as it is the one training centre for a region of 25 million people.

If an insurance company is paying, then by all means go to a private hospital and have the speed of thir outpatients' department or their in-patient 'hotel services'; but the Government hospitals are just as good, though more crowded.

(Tip: expect that whoever you meet may be shy about their pronunciation of English, and find your speech difficult to understand.
Have a pen and paper and write the important words, and let them do the same. Generally, educated Thais are very good at reading English and writing down essential terms, but get a bit panicked by the listening/speaking side of it.

yes they do have a lot of monkeys,2 years ago we decided to go check these monkeys out,anyway we drove around the park where the monkeys live we then pulled into the car park with a bag of bananas we bought from some fruit vendors up the road.my son and daughter were having a ball feeding the monkeys when all of a sudden one of the male monkeys
attacked my son it grabbed him on the hand now and took a little chunck out of his hand, it happened so quick it took us all by surprise,anyway i chased this little c***t with a half a brick but had no chance of catching him.so we were driving back home when i started to worry about rabies so we took him to aek hospital in udon,the doctor says he needs a rabies shot and 2 boosters after the first shot,so that little trip to kumphawapi ended up costing around 10000 baht.so if your going to visit with young kids be careful.we have a laugh about it now but wasnt funny at the time.

i forgot to mention, if you are a fisherman then just on the out skirts of town there is a fishing farm, great fishing and restocked quiet regurlar, also has a bar and a restaurant with reasonable prices.

can anyone update info on kumphawapi last post was 2010 western calendar...does anyone live there are have inlaws there ive been waiting 40 years to retire to udorn but its out grown its self too much traffic people and is just about gone too western for me... I like the hotels cafes health care shopping but its tooo much... thinking about spending some time in smaller towns like kumphawapi and ban phai does anyone know anything about ban phai any hotel or café advice would be much appreciated any other ideas about small towns that haven't gotten too big...would also like towns to be on railway to connect udon or kk as im going too blind to drive and would rather commute to medical appts. via rail my wife and I are mid 60s thai-american married 44 years the wife wants to come home shes been living overseas for 40 plus years with trips home about every two to three years shes ready for someone else to cook the noodle soup sticky rice and barbque chicken shes homesick and I can understand that I ramble but any help would be appreciated thanks in advance for your help sincerely khun lek and khun john

As far as I know, the main update on Kumphawapi is that there is now what I call a 'size 2' Tesco-Lotus about a mile to the West of the town centre, on the road to Route 2 and Udon or Khon Kaen.

(Size 1 being the huge ones as in Udon and KK, size 2 being a supermarket plus some household goods and some separate specialist businesses between the checkouts and the entrance door, size 3 being a smaller version of size 2, and size 4 being just a bit bigger than a 7-11.)

Like all the Amphoes around here, there has been steady development, reflecting the gradually increasing affluence of the area in recent years.

Udon, in my opinion, has grown too fast for comfort------suddenly what was a homely provincial town has become ritzy.

Khon Kaen has stayed much as it was, with the only noticeable change being that it now has taxis as well as tuk-tuks.

If you ask around in Kumpawapi, I am sure that you will find a car and driver, or minibus and driver, who will take you to Udon or KK when you need to go, wait for you, and bring you back.
